Del W's article in BTM
« on: December 26, 2005, 02:43:30 PM »
I just had a chance to check out December's BTM and saw that Del Warren has an article in it titled "Targeting for Success".

Check it out folks, it is a very good read. I use this type of targeting system all of the time, but the article says it is even more advantageous on sport conditions.

I read the article and found it intersting.  The only thing that I find about this type of targeting is you still only aim for one spot and watch the ball cross a point down lane that you hope will be where you want.

I mean say you aim for the 3rd arrow out to 10 at the break.  When you reach the line and release your eyes will be on the 3rd arrow.  Then you watch for the ball to cross the 10.  Basically it's all in the set up before the first step.  Well anyone who swings the ball should be aligned to there break point from the start.

It doesn't seem like anything new to me.  It's a great article though.  I guess if a bowler stands straight at the appraoch then try's to swing the ball out at release this article would help.

I envy you guys that already have the BTM. For years, mine has ALWAYS came around the 20th of each month, give or take a day or two. Three months ago I didn't get one and had to call for one. The next month it came on the 4th of the next month and this past month I didn't get one again and had to again call for the magazine of which I received the 16th of Dec.

Why are you blaming them, when it's either the publisher's distributor or the Post Office system. I'm a part time carrier and evry magazine/periodical we get at the local office gets delivered the day we get it. BUT each magazine hits 3 or 4 distribution points before it gets to your local office. Something is bollixed up along the way. I still get mine the last week of the month, rarely as early as the 20th, neve rlater than the last day of the month.

Don't forget we're still in Christmas season: tons of catalogs and advertisements.

In our own defense, in a normal schedule, they all get sent out from our printer in Las Vegas on the 15th or 16th of the month. All of them...at the same time. Why or how they get delayed...we have no idea. We have complained to the postal authorities till we're blue in the face. They will listen to you (consumers) a lot harder. When you don't get it on time, raise hell with them. They're probably laying around the P.O in bundles yet. For example, Hawaii is always late and only about 3/4 of our subscribers over there even get theirs. We hardly ever have a noget in California. Occasionally, as in November, the printer has problems and they get sent out late (a 4-6 days this time). However, if you haven't received yours by the end of the month, please call and  let us know. Call the office at 800-282-7043.

Charlest, don't be critizing us about this. Show are we supposed to know that is the case? They write the magazine, they sell it, we buy it, so we expect to get it and have no way of knowing whether it is BTM or the publisher or the post office or etc. that didn't do their job. BTM has the names of their customers so how do you know that your, my, or anyone elses name got ommited whether accidently or whatever when the list went to the publisher? It has to start somewhere so we look at the people that sold us a magazine in the first place. I complain to them when I don't get one and someone sends me one, so whether it is the publisher or BTM that sends it, I nor anyone else has any way of knowing.

Sorry Mr King but I've had at least 1-2 no gets per year over the last few years (in Northern California) and when I do receive it, it's either in the last week of the month or the beginning of the next month.  I've helped sell quite a few subscriptions from my shop that this made me so irate, I just don't subscribe anymore.  Most of guys by me also get their copies at the end of the month as well.

BTM is a top notch magazine and the article by Del Warren was very useful to me, an old timer, who never targeted the break point. It is hard not to just try and square up and go up the boards.  I learned with a rubber ball in the late 60's.  So, Del's article was great for me.

They also have a new segment for seniors which is great.  I hope the younger guys like the mag, too.

I have only had two no gets in about 9 years and both times BTM sent me a replacement issue via first class mail.  I believe they do a great job.

Just my two cents.

Just to be clear. We want you to complain to us first when you don't get the magazine. You could have overlooked the renewal date. We could have made an error. We certainly have before. But, we want to know if you don't get the magazine. If your subscription is in order and there was no delay in printing, we'll get another copy to you, first class from the office, but if you complained like hell to the Post Office about the delay, it wouldn't bother us at all. If you're not getting the magazine till late in the month in NorCal, your local or regional post office is just delaying distributing them until a "slow day" comes along. No other excuses. Its the closest area, other than Nevada.

Here is the proof that we are doing the right thing when we contact BTM when we don't get a magazine.

Thanks for clearing that up Mr. King.

Who's blaming you, Brick?
You know I didn't AND WOULDN'T say that!
(for shame, for shame, )

I'm saying, like all magazines, the publisher's printer puts the copies in the hand of the Post Office, first last and always.

And yes, to Ironman's statement, the PO will always listen to the cutomer before the sender.

On my local route, we just had a woman complain of not getting her local weekly paper on Thursdays. She was most irate and EXTREMELY vociferous that one week out of 52 she got it on a Friday. So, the main PO had us put a tracer on the paper for a month. My regular carrier and I, when I do it on Thursdays, about once a month, must document when we get it, to the EXACT minute and when we deliver it (which varies with every day's volume of mail.) and hand that document in to our postmaster who then forwards it to the higher-ups.

I assume the same would be done to yours and Rick's copies of the BTM.
