Long post coming up...
To Cg Proshop Carl:
"Let me start of by saying that PA was not the only left hander that didn't perform in the first half of the season. I find it kind of ironic that the first show after the break there were 2 lefties (considering all of the complaining lefties were doing so far this season)."
There were lefties on the show because they were in Reno. Every lefty made match play for the firt time this year (except for Chris Hayden who's on a mission to play a certain part of the lane...but that's another story). Now did everyone switch companies and find a new reaction, no? Is the National Bowling Stadium's foundation tilted to the right allowing for more consistent hook to the lefty's, yes. There was a reason 2 lefty's made the show. Now they do set up the patterns differently at the NBS because of the foundation but any PBA pattern will play easier for the lefty's than the righty's in Reno, basic architecture.
And the lefty's have been "complaining" for several seasons since the switch to the Brunswick oiling machine, in fact many on tour have had issue with the machine (but again; another story). There is no fault anywhere for how the lanes are playing it's just something the owlers have to adapt to.
To all:
This PA discussion was way to overblown by the PBA and the TV show. The independent bowlers switch all the time and there really isn't any mention. I can understand that PA had renewed confidence with the new company but it wasn't the overwhelming story line of the tournament. We would have barely heard anything about this switch if they hadn't been in Reno right after the break.
I do believe in matching up with different equipment and even companies, but I don't believe in how touchy people get when one company is metioned over another.
I also think the matching up with symmetric v. asymmetric equipment can get alittle muddy as well when people give blanket statements about how they can't use asymmetric cores. Each type of core has it's place in the reaction scale. Some reactions you just can't acheive with a symmetric and there are others you can't get with asymmetric.
Granted there are fewer asymmetric balls out there because they are a niche reaction and the sharper breakpoint that the asymmetricals acheive don't fit the eye of what some bowlers want to see on the lanes but that shouldn't mean they are unusable. And at around 15-25% of the overall reaction how influential is the core to one's game? The coverstock is what's getting you to the pocket the core and drilling is determining your carry. Certain houses can produce better carry with sym. and some are better with asym. To be a complete bowler one must utilize the right coverstock AND core on the right condition.
Wow, way off topic. Oh well, happy reading.

PS: Lanemasters/Ledgends are in a different category...their cover/core matchups are based on a higher rg core system and really strong covers that can produce the snap of assymetrics. At least thats my take...
