Morpheus Pin In/Out Question
« on: August 25, 2004, 04:20:45 AM »
Hey Guys,

I have a quick question regarding Pin distances with Morpheus
Cores.  How important - if at all - is the Pin to CG distance
with these cores?  From what I've seen and experienced, MB and
Pin placement have much more of an effect on reaction than the
Pin in/out...

The reason why I'm asking is I have access to an Untamed with a 5 inch pin
that I'd like to put a 4 x 2.75 MB drill on, which would leave the
CG below midline.  What if anything is this going to do expected
ball reaction???  Are there any negatives to doing this?  Or should
I get a smaller Pin ???

Thanks,

Bill

Bill,

Cg placement means nothing as far as reaction but will contribute to statics. I will give you and example.

I had a couple of Phenoms, the first of which had a PIN P, CG *, and MB (MB) that looked like this before drilling.

P

----*

MB

I wanted to keep the pin low and place the MB on my VAL swinging it that way put over 3 oz of positive side in the ball so it required a large weighthole to get it back to legal. Now....I threw the ball for a few practice games before I decided where I wanted the weight hole. This Phenom hooked MORE with 3/4 oz of positive side weight than it did with 3 oz of side weight.

The longer CG difference may require a weighthole closer to where you place the MB (because the CG is obviously close to the MB on the ball you are talking about).

I really would not be worried about the location of the CG. Cg location on the morpheous core balls have been shown to be unimportant.

Ex - (Carl),

Thanks.  That's what I thought.  I'm looking to do the same layout
you did on the Phenom.  MB on VAL, with pin down.  Just wanted to double check before I put any holes in it....

Thanks,

Bill

Hi Bill,

Just like Ex states, the cg's are literally no longer important.  You just have to be careful that you can keep a ball legal with it's static weights.  Your pin from midline has become the new measurement to use to create the desired length(pin in vs pin out).  If you drop the cg below midline, your weighthole should end up in the thumb pos quadrant if you want that static drilled out.  Hope this helps...
