About the Track CHAMP
« on: August 25, 2004, 09:18:45 PM »
How much ball was this ball really? Was it an early rolling ball with a small controlled backend... or a clear the heads ball with a strong backend? Does it compare to any of Track's current balls or anybody else's balls in ball reaction... Just looking to find out what kind of ball reaction this ball has.

There's a guy with one for a fair price and I thought I may try it.

OH... how did it compare to the Track Contender? I had a Contender, so I know that ball's reaction so it would be a good comparison example also.

This was an early particle that actually got down the lane(due to the tall core) and turned the corner.  Solid Superflex base from the original Messenger with a light particle load, might be the same cover from Mass Chaos.  They worked very well polished, dull they were pretty horrible in the oil(wanted to skate too far).  Polished, it made a great skid snap piece for medium and carrydown.

I had a Champ a few years ago.  It was drilled over the label, about 4.5 X 5.5 if I remember correctly.  For me it was a very strong and even arcing ball.  Problem was, I almost never saw enough oil to use it, so I sold it to a high speed, low rev guy and I believe he is still throwing it.

My guess is that it wont compare to the current line of hook monster, but it would probably fit nicely as a medium to medium heavy ball especially if you have clean back ends.

Although I never owned a Contender, I have seen a couple in action, and looking at the specs the two should be very similar.

The great one

The champ was no where near the skid/flip of the contender...it had an early roll, and a smooth arc. I got rid of both of mine, because i'd hit the pocket all day, and not carry the ten with them. I wouldn't of even drilled up a second, but i paid the proshop guy for a spirt, he took my money, ordered it (he says)  then closed his shop and moved 2 days later. So all he had worth taking from his shop was the champ. Good ball if you could get it cheap, i'd compare it to a more board covering, higher rg, not as good hitting crunch.

The champ is a 12 percent high load particle. It is a smooth rolling ball that is easy to get to the pocket. I had several and I liked them a lot but I had to put them into a luster king to cover up the particles enough to get it down the lane well. They will sometimes leave 10 pins because of their smoothness. I really liked then early when the backends were moving or playing outside. It has the same cover as the Contender but the Conterder has the elite core in it.
