there seems to be alot of buzz around these two balls. hearing all good stuff about the resurgence and how strong it is in oil.Also hearing how revolutionary the rising is and how remarkable its going to be.
My question is since ebo makes em both are they so close in performance that it wont matter which one you get ,or are they 2 different balls with one possibly being better than the other. I was reading a post on the resurgence and it said the resurgence was 5 - 7 boards stronger than the odyssey which i have and love. I am considering the rising because i really like tracks carry potential response and reaction on the right conditions. Never bowled with columbia so i have no idea about their stuff. I also have an epic battle which is stronger than the odyssey by about 7 boards all things considered .So do I even need the rising or is it just the new shoe i want, (my annology balls are to bowlers what shoes are to women)?

They are different. The Resurgence is symmetrical where The Rising is asymmetrical(VERY STRONG MB). One major aspect to consider is that the Rising is VERY STRONG OOB and it is only at 4000 grit abralon, where the Resurgence is at 800grit.

I have tested 2 Risings and I couldn't imagine trying the surface at a grit as low as 800. All in all I think that both are good.....as a bowler I would choose The Rising due to the technology that it offers up.

I understand that the core and cover are new......I was refering to 360* layout system of the Rising AND its .031 intermediate diff. The Resurgence is a standard symmetrical ball.

which means you can pretty much get any reaction you want out of the ball, if you want it to go long and snap hard....you can drill it for just that, if you want it to hook early...you can drill it to do that

you have much more options with an asymetrical ball IMO, you can fine tune the reaction shape to whatever you desire

I have seen Carl roll his Rising. They are at 4000, and they still pick up very well and still have a lot of backend. I feel that if Carl takes his Risings down in grit he will have no way to roll these balls. They are that strong with the surface they have. The Resurgence is strong but it is still limited to what layouts you can use because of it being a symmetrical ball. The Rising brings a completly new world of layouts and ball motion to the game because of its core technology it kinda makes the old asymmetrical layout feel like the symmetrical layout looked when asymmetrical balls first came out. You now have two options when drilling this ball. Standard asymmetrical (funny to use standard with asymmetrical), or you can use the 360 degree layout system that will offer a reaction that is unmatched by any layout you could ever place on a normal symmertical or asymmetrical ball.

that settles it for me the rising is the one. I probably will never see enough oil to use it ,but it sounds like i just have to try it. I have a battle in oob and its strong and hard to find somewhere to play it so i guess it will see garage duty until i decide to shoot abt again.

All I can say is your heard the same thing about No Mercy's technology easier drilling for pro shops last year at this time. Now take a look at how popular that ball is today basically 1 year later not many talk about it...so to will The Rising and Resurgence fade away. It's just a fact a of life everybody wants to hop on the band wagon but in the end it's just that and only that. HMO and only my opinion but haven't we all seen them come and go? Not just these 2 balls but a whole bunch of them. Two years ago The One was the ball.

My opinion find a ball that fits your need with a long lasting cover that will last a few years without obsolescence built in and you've got a ball that will last and work for you.

Bowl well folks whatever you decide.

The problem with the NM was that most shops would look at the layout they placed on the ball that showed what you did with the heart. They would then match that layout onto the ball. For some bowlers it worked because the pin was in a good position and it rolled and still had some movement on the backend. Others with this layout, would see the ball just roll and never flip. This was because with this layout the pin would be way to close to a bowlers PAP. If you had someone who was a semi spinner who had a PAP or say 3 1/4' right 1'up. The pin placed at the spot that was shown on the sheet, would place the pin no more then say 2 maybe 2 1/2" from the bowlers PAP. I don't know about most people but when I have a ball with my pin that close to my PAP I really dont see much backend. That is why so many people didn't, and still don't like the NM. Not because the idea of the ball was bad or that it was a hype thing. It was because to many people had bad drillings on the ball. I am sure everyone knows what drilling I am talking about for the NM.

Hey toomany,

One more note on the difference between the two balls. Carl and I were testing the Rising and Kinetic on the same lanes with Chad M (Brand Mgr of Col) while he was testing the Resurgence and Rival.

I saw the Resurgence offer a heavier roll vs the Rising being able to rev up faster and easier. Both balls are good but they did offer a different look. Now you can add in the fact that the Rising being asymmetrical, we can truly alter or create the desired reaction shape. Hope this helps some...

those were good food for thought comments.How many times have i jumped on the bandwagon only to find out the bottom was rotten and i end up falling thru with a ball i dont like,i.e,wmb.big one,nm. I am pretty happy with my odyssey and epic. Probably will never see enough oil to warrant even having a ball stronger than my battle,which i never see enough oil to use. I do need a ball for under my epic though. I have a machine and a solution ppex ,but i still have a gap , maybe the kinetic is the answer since it is stronger than the machine, but is it stronger than the epic or will it fit under it.
