Freak-a-zoid as benchmark ball
« on: June 08, 2005, 03:14:14 AM »
I bowl on wooden lanes with clean backends. I bought a Freak-a-zoid for this shot and had it drilled with the pin next to the ring finger and the cg in the palm, its way to strong. I can't control the break, flips to hard or me.
I like control. I was thinking of redrilling it and leaving the pin in the same place but moving the cg closer to my pap. I was wondering if this would smooth out the reaction and make it more playable accross more conditions? Tell me what you think, thanks.

By swinging the CG, on a symmetrical ball that will make the ball start sooner (roll quicker) and have less backend. You will still get the same general look as you are not moving the pin, but will be easier to control on the backend.

BigHorhn,

It is difficult to say without really knowing much about your game. The drilling that you have on the Freakazoid is probably close to leverage, which is no way a benchmark type drilling. Swinging the CG over would help stabilize the breakpoint, but I think the ball would still be a bit strong. Adjusting the coverstock is probably your best bet.

I guess I need to throw in my disclaimer that I usually do, but didn't here, I always recommend changing surfaces FIRST before redrilling. It is the easiest, and cheapest way to go for what you may need/like.

All good points. I will try and polish the ball first but, and then redrill. I have a couple of balls with the cg kicked out, works well for me. I think it will still have enought on the backend. Excaliber I wish I knew my measurements. I'll get them soon, all I can tell you is that I track high have medium rev and I am left handed. A tweener I guess. If you have a particular drill I might try based upon what I told you i'd appreciate it. Thanks Guys

BigHorhn,

Based on the info you have given (more in the future would be great bud), I would probably have the pin about 4 1/2 inches away from your PAP. You can stack the CG below if you wish. You can leave the pin in that area, just place it about an inch higher.

Lefties usually get a great roll on the ball naturally (which is unfair). moving the pin to 4 1/2 from PAP will get it down the lane a further before it makes its move.

Hey Big, I like Ex's suggestion of moving the pin back away from pap for more delay in your roll.  However, it also sounds like the cover is too strong for the condition you're trying to use it on.  Fine it to 1500-2000 and polish. This should help it push downlane some...
