got to be kidding me
« on: January 28, 2005, 06:57:06 AM »
Iike i said i liked my rule so much, i went out and ordered a xception and my driller was like yeah that would be good ball for you for your lower speed. well it came in today and my parents picked it up today cause i have school and the pro shop is not open on weekends, well i was so happy to come home and see it i could not wait but i walk into my door and its blue and red and dull, not green and blue and shiny, I CAN'T UNDER STAND HOW THEY GOT RULE GP2 OUT OF XCEPTION, I get one brand new ball a year and one used so im screwed and i jsut sold my one and only pearl medium ball so i have 3 dull balls laying around, and the worst part is he drilled it the same way as what i wanted my xception drilled so the pin is above finger and mb right next to thumb. Why would any one  want a big hooking ball to snap he should have knew better then that.

Im going to go talk to him tomorrow, i doubt he will do anything

Sounds like your pro shop made an error that they should correct. But, I wouldn't give up on the new ball until you've tried different surfaces, maybe a weight hole, etc. You never know. Had a similar, but different, situation w/ a teammate, a pro shop error. He ordered a 16 lb Phenom Unleashed. Shop got it, drilled it, and his friend picked it up. Turned out it was a 15 lb'er. Shop stood by their mistake, but asked him to use ball, change surface, test reaction on different conditions to be sure he liked the pin, cg, etc. They were only going to plug it and sell as used anyway so they let him experiment for a while. He did experiment and found ball went longer than expected, so when he got the 16 layout was changed a little. Shop showed integrity, my buddy is even more loyal to them than before, and they get alot of referral business for doing the right thing.

HOFer, I understand where you're coming from on the weight issue, but these are two TOTALLY different reaction shapes (which I'm sure you understand), I think the shop should do the right thing and replace the ball

The shop should acknowledge and fix their error, but they could also let him keep both balls...I mean, what are they going to do with that extra GP2 hanging around?  Do they send it back to the distrubutor or Track?  LOL! I have no idea what I'm saying, but having two balls for the price of one would be pretty darn cool!

Hey Nick,

Sorry to hear but you'll learn one thing in life bud, everyone makes mistakes.  A good shop should replace it for you.

For a slower speed player, this layout isn't that bad.  Mine isn't quite like what you're describing but close because I wanted more backend reaction in heavy oil.  I have early rolling balls but they can start too soon when the heads go away.  This layout would allow you to clear heads and overpower the backend with the core and coverstock.  Doesn't sound as bad now, does it?

Good luck to you on getting what you want, maybe you can try it and see if you like it and then get it for a lower price.  Then try and talk your folks into the Xception cause you got this at a great price...heh, what the heck, my kids have done it to me all my life...

The GP2 will shine up real nice, but it will not have the same characteristics as the Xception though, but just lay a few coats on if need be and see what happens!

Nick,
GP2 is not a bad ball bud, I know it is not what you were looking for---however you may have opened up another option that may be better for you...

...How is your Rule drilled up again? If you can polish that ball and keep the GP2 I believe that would be a better option for you. Even an aggressively drilled Rule polishes up easily and it is very close to the Xception.

Keep us updated,

My rule is drilled, with the pin about 3 inches from finger and the mb 1 inch from thumb. And the gp2 is is pin above to the left of finger, but the MB is next to thumb TO THE RIGHT SIDE never seen that before so it would be nice to know what i will get out it.

Thanks for your guys help, i have vented my anger since i made my post i guess i have a few choices, i will see what happened tomorrow.

What do you think about the drilling on the gp2?

Im thinking that i might do this

GP2

take the big blue out of retirement, it was an ok ball

Polish rule=xception

Nick,

To the right side of the thumb? Are you left handed or right handed?

Read my mini review of the GP2, I have one of mine drilled (for righty) pin above ring finger and MB to the right and up against the thumb.

I would try the GP2 side by side with the Rule, you will be suprised at the difference. Then try the Rule polished up. It should be a nice 1-2 combo.

if you are truly not satisfied, I think the shop you bought it from should correct there error. But I agree with the others, give it a chance first. Try polishing your Rule, it should bring the reaction somewhat close to what the Xception is. Good Luck, and keep us posted!!

Nick,

More than likely---depending your PAP, having the MB to the right of the thumb....you will get a stronger reaction out of the ball. From the way you are making it sound the MB on your Rule is to the left of the thumb, correct? You will definately see MORE BALL with the MB to the right of the thumb.

Ex is exactly right. I have MOST of my equipment that has a mass bias set up with the pin under ring, cg in the palm, and the mass bias under the thumb/left of thumb ( I am right handed). This gives me lots of control and the ball reads the lane nicely for me with that drill. The closer you put the mass bias to your PAP, the earlier (MORE) ball will be. It is a much stronger reaction sooner the closer the mass bias gets to your PAP. I just drilled a GP@ with the mass bias on my VAL (#3 on Track's drill sheets) and from early results, it is very early compared to my other stuff, but overall, a decent, new reaction for me.

I talked to the pro shop guy and, my xception should be in tuesday, but i did not talk to him about a the GP2,if he puts it on the used ball rack for lets say $80 like msot of his good stuff, i think i will try and talk my parents into paying for it cause im broke and i would be stupid not to get it, but you never know he might redrill for himself or give it to his son.
