Finally threw some more games with the FreakaZoid and here's what I saw...
Specs:4x3, pin 1.5 from midline, out of box
On 32ft buffed to 40. Grabbed a pair, one lane O/U like I mentioned before and the other lane had good carry down already, about 8 boards tighter(wasn't this difficult 20 yrs ago). Anyway, the ball still looked very controllable on both lanes, just reacted stronger off the dry on the O/U lane, had a better reaction playing more of the oil line on that lane.
The ball was very clean thru the heads and for me, wanted to roll a little early in the midlane and had a continuous arc motion to the pins, hit very well on the drier lane but that's to be expected. On the carrydown lane, had to play much more direct to get the carry but it was still able to eat thru the carrydown. I feel it's due to the coverstock, it's a little stronger then expected.
Mr. Chapman and Rock77, I threw my Sheer(4 1/8 x 3 3/4, pin 1.5 from midline) to compare and I have the FreakaZoid about 4-5 boards stronger overall. It handled the oil much better then the Sheer. Between the coverstock and the lower rg, I have this ball pulling up quicker where the Sheer goes down further with a stronger backend finish. Even in the carrydown, it reacted sooner which allowed it to stand up quicker and react better overall. I had to hit the Sheer a little harder to get the ball to work whereas I could just throw the FreakaZoid more normally or comfortably to get to the pocket. Definitely more predictable for me, also keeps the pins very nice and low when it hit.
Overall, a very nice control ball with good hitting power. It reminds me of a stronger Revmaster and offers a nice arcing finish on the backends.
