Track arsenal question..
« on: January 20, 2007, 10:06:14 AM »
Hey everyone, this is my current arsenal so far..

Heavy Oil: --
Meadium/Heavy: Power Machine
Medium: Equation (i still love this ball, lol)
Light/dry: Desert Heat

Now my problem is my Power Machine.. im not really liking the reaction i get out of that ball too much. I tried it at box surface, then i tried polishing it over the box surface, and still no love for it. My Equation out hooks my Power Machine too :\ .. pics of it are in my profile if you wanna see them. I'm really only asking what ball i should get to replace my Power Machine.. doesn't matter if its Columbia, Track, or AMF .. thanks for your opinions!

Brian,

Sorry to hear that you don't like the Power Machine.  I really like mine, there just hasn't been enough oil lately to be able to use it.  If you are looking to fill the medium/heavy slot in the arsenal, how about the Inertia?  I have mine at 1000 Abralon and a "control" drill on it (see profile) and it works great for me.  I've read that it is very adaptable to surface changes, plus it will give you a different look than your Equation.  You also don't have anything in the heavy oil slot.  For that I would recommend the Dyno-Thane Threshold.  I just picked one up and that ball is a BEAST.  If you have any other questions, PM me.

It has a very inconsistent roll, unlike my Equation, which gives me the same look shot after shot. It doesn't hit very well, i leave a lot of weak pins, 9's, 10's, 8's .. and i just don't like it anymore. :/

Strong asymmetrical balls require more consistency to perform consistently and are less forgiving to release differences. With symmetrical balls you get a more consistent roll cause you only have the pin influencing the migration period. With asymmetrical you have both the pin and the MB which can make them more sensitive, especially when you place the pin at a major length position and the MB in a flip position like you have. With your PAP coordinates the pin on the PM has to be close to 6" making it quite sensitive.
With the EQ you have the same pin position which has negated most of the dynamics/flare of the core making it more consistent cause the cover now has a larger influence in respect to the core's influence. The PM on the other hand will retain more of it's dynamics/flare causing the core to have more influence.
You have to remember the stronger the core in relation to the cover strength the more sensitive the ball will be to release inconsistencies. The most consistent balls I have ever had have had a weak core or a very srong cover.

Brian,

I wouldn't give up on the Power Machine.  Have you tried any surface adjustments?  Maybe send the Tag Team a PM and see what they have to say.  The Power Machine is just too good to give up on.

Brian,

In my opinion the problem with the Power Machine is the layout. Considering your PAP the pin distance is probably 5.5 to 5.75 from PAP, correct?

Taking that into consideration usually that is a skid/flip pin location (for most).....the MB is probably 3 3/4 to 4 inches from PAP? That MB placement is taming the breakpoint of the ball when the pin position wants to make the ball get length and snap. So you have a length layout with a fairly early reving MB placement AND judging by your PAP your track is slightly inverted? which also creates early roll.

I think placing the MB closer to your thumb such as 4 1/2- 4 3/4 from PAP would have worked much better with that pin distance.......and this is why you are seeing the Equation hook more....because it is finishing harder in the backend.
