General comment for the Track community:
« on: May 24, 2005, 03:24:07 AM »
This is really open to anyone, but pertains mainly to the Track crowd as Rick, Ex, myself, and the rest of the crew are more well versed in Track equipment than other.

Please feel free, especially newbies, to write to us either through this board or through a PM whenever you have something that needs answered. I can't tell you the amount of times when I get a PM, the first sentence is "sorry to bother you". Let me tell you something. If I didn't want to be bothered, I wouldn't be here, and neither would any of the other guys probably. Go ahead and ask, I will respond as soon as I can or as soon as I have an answer. When I was a kid, I was always worried what the person I was asking may say/do for approaching them....please...don't worry on here. We are here to spread our knowledge of the game and of Track equipment.

Clint -
Nicely said and thanks!!  I'd been thinking about a post complementing the Track family on being the best equipment specific portion of the site -- you, Rick and Ex have been very helpful.  While I'm still only a Track dabbler (I only have my Animal), it's great having a group of people so interested in how things are going once you do invest in a piece of the equipment.  While I'm at it, might as well ask my other question -- I forget if it was chitown or someone else asking about building an arsenal out of different preps of 1 ball -- regardless, my question is this:  Do you guys get a huge discount on this stuff to be able to do that??  Or, are you guys using the college money to fund it??  It's a cool concept, but I'd be a dead man walking if I told the missus I just got myself a new crate of GP2s for a little experiment I'm trying!!

Don't get me wrong, if the misses knew I was drilling 3-4 more GP2s to add to the 3 I already have, I would be a dead man too. But, we do get a nice discount on equipment, and there are different levels of staff as well. I don't know if I am allowed to tell you the price, so I will describe it to you....I can get 2 GP2s from Track for what I pay for 1 from my distributor. I buy all my personal use items directly from Track, including bags and shirts in addition to balls.
I will be carrying 6 GP2s next season, as a test to myself and others to see how vesatile one ball can be with some different drills and surface preps. Like I have said before, due to a couple of factors with this particluar ball (higher RG, dual particle cover, versatility of cover, versatility of the Morpheous core), I believe I can cover everything I am going to see but the driest of dry. My high speed and little axis tilt helps me out on the mediums as well.

Not using the college $$ here, I have 3 kids to send to college....need every penny I can get.

We try very hard to help out anyone who wants the info....thanks for the kind words!

Next year in Texas may be out of the question now for me. My wife was recently diagnosed (after almost 1 1/2 years of symptoms) with some serious health problems. She has always wanted to go to Vegas, and with the USBCs in 2006 being there, it is probably more logical as well. But, you never know.

Thank you for the kind words. Each of us work hard to try to make sure everyone has the answers they want/need.

Here is what I have always done as far as equipment: If I find a ball I really like I will try it with a couple of layouts. I have bowling pay for bowling equipment. Jackpot winnings, bracket winnings, tourny winnings etc... I put all of that money back into bowling. I consider it an investment. NATURALLY, if the wife knew, I would be dead.

Ex,

If our wives ever find out, we could always just get an apartment....of course, it would have to have a drill press, an alley........

Well you asked for it so here it is,i need some help.I am looking for a med oilball in the track lineup.I have narrowed it down,i think, to the Slash or the Arsenal Angular.I am a senior bowler, right handed, seed around 15 to 16mph and i love to play outside between the three and eight board down and in.If this helps my pap is 4 and 3/4 over and 1/2 up.If possible with the little you have to work with, could you help me out, thanks

The best benchmark ball out there right now is the Slash. It will tell you exactly what the lanes are doing, and it is a great medium condition ball. It will not handle the flood the GP2 or Aggressive can, and it is just too strong for the sahara, but everything in between, the Slash is great for.

The Angular is also a good ball, but it will not read the lane like the Slash will.

alex,

For the shot you are stating (naturally this is going to depend on the oil pattern), I think the Slash would work best. The Angular would really jump off of the dry.

Clint - if you need pennies, let us know where the send them.................you've helped all of us enough to deserve this offer............by the way, do not know how old you are but I don't think you'll get kicked off the site for asking people to send pennies (re: Soupy Sales asking the kids to each get a dollar from their parents and mail it in)......

Anyway, enough of my attempt at humor. Thanks to you and the others for the keen insight.

The track board is (in my opionion) the most helpful board... mostly because of EX, Clint, Rick. You guys are the heart, soul and legs () of the Track board.

Keep up the good work guys.

How old do you think? 3 kids, married, financial advisor by day, pro shop guy by night, graduated from YSU Magna Cum Laude with a finance degree.

I am probably younger than you think!
