General Track question for Track users:
« on: May 10, 2005, 01:25:22 AM »
What type of cover do you prefer? Particle solid, particle pearl, resin solid, resin pearl, etc.

Also, do you prefer a weak core or a stronger core? WHY?

Just seeing what the preferences are out there in equipment.

I will start be saying I prefer a solid particle cover and a stronger core, thus the reason why the GP2 is so good for me. Resins have a tendency to over/under me to death and pearls in general do the same as well. With me tracking so high, almost no axis tilt, and 17-18 MPH (and I can get it higher when I need to)I need as much traction as possible and core strength as well. Now, I do have all of types of covers and cores in my bags as when the time is right to use them, I do, but I always tend to lean back eventually toward the solid particles with stonger cores (Freak-Mutant-Phenom-Phenom Unleashed-GP2-Aggressive, just to name the last few).

How about you?

So far, particle balls seem to work pretty well for me.  I have a Mutant and a Triple Threat and I really like them both.  I've also got a Black Sparkle Power Groove and an Icon2, both particle.  I'd like to try a resin ball, and if I get the chance this summer I'll try to pick one up with league prize money.

i love solid particle. xcel, wmb, phenom. like them as dull as possible. even sand my heat down to 380 abralon. ball speed 19-20 usually 20 is most comfortable. my phenom is polished some, and really liked the reaction i got last week. most consistent: 213-214-226. went a little longer than im used to but turned really hard. might try it tonight.

Clint,

No real preferance here. I like each of them because they each have their use. I do like asymmetrical cores, that is what pulled me to Track Intl. When I saw the core in the Freak I was awe struck.

Clint,

I also dont have a preference. As EX stated, they all have their purpose. I like certain characteristics of both. If I had to pick, I would like a Particle Pearl with a strong core. That way I get the smoothness and strength of a particle in oil but the hard snapping reaction of a reactive off the dry. Plus with coverstock alteration, you can use a particle pearl on almost anything.

Reactive pearls, helps get down the lane with my slow speed, and still kicks on the backend. But really...I like the cover that gets me the best scores that day.

I'll answer this the way I think it should be answered: If I only could have ONE ball, it would be a solid particle. Clint, my profile is somewhat similar, a little lower on the track (about 1 1/4 from the thumb) and same (or higher) speed, especially when I'm juiced. I prefer hand position and speed adjustments and this cover, at least to me, gives me the most versatility. This is why I LOVE MY ANIMAL - In fact, Sunday night I was amazing! 134-258-269.............!!!

Clint,

I perfer to use what the lanes want me too use.  I also think you need too use layouts that are stronger when using solid reactive or pearl reactive.  Pins that are shorter and less top weight produce more versatility.  Smaller cores and less flare will give you a better more controllable look on the lane as well.  I know this is an open ended question and we can talk all day about this subject, but thanks for letting the talk fly people will enjoy this topic.

I prefer a strong cover, pearl or solid resin with a high RG, low RG differential core.
OR
a weak cover with a low RG, highish Rg differential core.

Good topic Clint,

I found that on a THS, I tend to fair better with a flat cover, light load particle.  With my tilt and speed to rev ratio, it helps offset the skid and gives me more control on the backends.  I did very well with my Unleashed (pin under bridge and mb near val) so I am looking forward to the Xception 5.0.

For tourneys, I carry 6-7 balls with all covers....almost equaling my body weight.

I like solid reactives with a strong core (either asymmetric or symmetric) with medium to low RG's.  My favorite balls have all been solid reactives, including my latest favorite - The Rule!  Previous favorites were LT-48 Gold and Command Zone Arc.  I find that if I need more length, I can polish a solid reactive and it won't be as over/under as a pearl reactive.

I definitely do not like strong particles , as I generally do not bowl on heavy oil and my ball speed is slower.  Heavy solid particles tend to burn up for me leaving corner pins.  So the only particles that I have liked have been particle pearls like the Threat or light load particles like the Mojo.

I will be sad to see The Rule be discontinued   Originally, I was very concerned about buying it thinking it might be too aggressive and hard to control based on Track's hook and backend ratings. After getting it, I cannot be more impressed.  It gets good length, feeds out easily and has a strong angular backend.  All this and it is also very controllable.  I just have to chase the oil inside as the track dries out.

I should have mentioned that I had the first 10 last night with the Rule before pulling the eleventh shot leaving the 4/7.  I should have shifted my feet one board right to chase the oil ensuring that I feed it out!  (note that I am a lefty).

Well there is always tonight
