GP2 drilling help needed
« on: June 21, 2005, 02:51:54 PM »
Hey all, I was needing an oiler. This ball wont see allot of time on the lanes but there are a few tournies I go to that I need one. The ball specs are 15lb 3oz 2 3/4 top weight and a 4" pin. My stats are pap is 5 3/8 over 3/4 up, medium revs stroker. Speed is 14 to 16mph depending on lanes. I wear a cobra wrist brace and my span is 4 1/8 cut to cut. Any help would be appreciated as usual. I know there are allot of track staffers and pro shop guys here and you guys know your stuff.

Thanks, cooksey

Hey early roll with a bit of backend. Need something to use on 42' flat pattern.

I agree with the pin positioning, but not the MB position. It could be moved closer to his VAL and still give him plenty of backend, since he is stroker.

Hey Ex, what kind of mb position would you suggest?

DPat,

Being a high tracker, he could still go below the fingers on an asymmetrical and not hit the holes.

Just to give the ball an oiler look, I would move the MB to about 1 inch left of your VAL. This layout, as long as it is used on oil, will give you a good early read of the lane, but when there is enough oil to get it down the lane it will retain enough energy to give you a strong backend arc.

Hey, thanks EX never layed a ball out with the MB left of the val. I try to lay out most of my stuff so should be interesting to try. Just an example of the type of shot I want it for would be something like the shootout at the fort tourney in fort wayne in. if you have ever been.  How do you lay one out with the mb left of the pap?

Thanks, cooksey

I am horrible with diagrams bud....

First, I said left of VAL, not PAP.

What the ball should end up looking like based on your PAP location is the pin next to the ring finger, and the MB is going to be right of your thumb, but left of the line drawn straigh through your PAP. The MB is going to end up in the area even or slightly below your thumb.

Did I explain it well?

K just trying to picture it. My driller not up on allot of the new stuff so I lay it out myself. Usually use a compass to find my pap based on pin and mb distances and go from there. Just don't want to screw it up lol.

Hey cooksey,

If you want a little more finish to it, I'd suggest pushing the pin back a little also, to just about 4.25 to 4.5.  The leverage positioning will want to help it get into an earlier roll. My layout for you would be about 4.5x3.75 mb with the pin about 3.5 above midline, the reaction will be pretty close to Ex's suggestion but with just a tad more finish.
