Gearing up for the season....
« on: August 14, 2006, 12:42:11 AM »
Hey Guys,

Another tip coming from your Prez about getting your Track gear ready for the season.

League bowlers: Make sure you get your 2-3 ball arsenal out and have them cleaned or make sure you have bled out some of the oil that the ball has soaked in from use from last season.  This will help in the performance area of your equipment.

If you have altered the coverstocks on your equipment with any lower grits(800 and below), have your equipment checked out by a shop. You may need to have the finger grips taken out and the holes beveled down because they may have become sharp and that may cause cracking.  Remember, when we sand a ball down, we sand the entire ball and that includes the area surrounding the grips.

Just a reminder for some preventative care and help keep your equipment last longer and perform better for you.  Good luck and good bowling!

Great tips, Prez!  I bled my 5.0 a little while ago and couldn't believe how much oil came out of it.  Needless to say, I've gotten back the reaction I had when I first got the ball.  Bleed your bowling balls guys...you'll see the difference afterwards.

How do you bleed the ball? I am guessing it is the water bath? I need details as I never did this before.

Adam

Hey Adam,

I recommend to use the hottest tap water you can in a small bucket (like for car washing) and fill it about 1/3 the way.  Then add some dish detergent to that which helps dissolves or lifts the oil as well.  Submerge the ball and repeat this process every 10 minutes or so because the water will have cooled down.  I do it about 3-4 times depending upon how much oil you see coming out each time.

Columbia makes a very good product called CPR which also helps extract oil from a ball.  Good stuff...

Oh my gosh, was I suppossed to hang on to that shirt. I got caught out in the woods awhile back, when nature called, so I put the shirt to the appropriate use.

Meanwhile, I will be going to my local lanes here in Oklahoma. I too will be wearing a Ten Pins Shirt, courtesy of Rick when I was in California in May. And you can't miss me either......Ten Pins Shirt and a bowling form that makes any ball look bad.
