GP2 coverstock questions
« on: October 19, 2005, 02:42:10 AM »
I previously posted this in the Coverstock Forum.

This is the current layout:

3 1/2" PIN above and right of ring finger, MB kicked out to the right of & below the thumb, small wgt hole, OOB cover; drilled for Heavy oil.
The OOB finish is Ultra-Smooth, per the specs, while the specs recommends
Clean-n-Sheen as a polish. I have had my pro shop maintain the coverstock for me with Clean-n-Dull as a cleaner.

My questions are:
How will Clean-n-Sheen affect the dymanics of this ball's reaction ??? Should I have the surface roughed up with a scotch-brite too, and if so, which one ???
I ask because it's drilled to be condition-specific (for heavy/floods, I believe) and I was wondering what affect(s) the polish and/or scotch-brite rubbing would have on it's characteristics (increased versatility, go longer with a stronger backend, etc).
Any feedback to make me smarted on this would be appreciated

The Clean N Sheen takes surfaces to 1000 if I remember right....I believe that is rougher than the out of box surface on the GP2...if that is the case, you should make it a little more aggressive early on....if you don't get any shine on it. I hit my Blue Heat last night with Clean N Sheen...I was really leaning on it and WOW, what a gloss with no polished used....gave me a great reaction...need to test it more and see how long it lasts.

Labzz...
I used the Clean-n-Sheen which is a compound and takes the scratches out and in my case the sand marks from 400 sandpaper out on my Rule. It left a shine and made my Rule arc real nice on the backend. My Rule was a little more jumpy sanded. I bowl on wood lanes in one house and left the Clean-n-Seen on for several weeks and the polish has held up well. For more snap, a coat of Magic shine on top of the Clean-n-Sheen works great and is how Track recommends the procedure. Clean and Dull is a great cleaner but that is all it does. It does not change the ball reaction for me anyway.
Good Luck,

Just had my pro shop hit the surface with a grey scotch brite, followed with Clean n Dull, then hit it with a light coat of Magic Shine; smoothed the midlane reaction down a bit and saved more pop for the backend. Much better !!!

Clean and Sheen finishes a ball with roughly a 1000 grit polish. As near as I can tell, that IS the finish on the Xception and a few other Track balls, on which it is termed a "compound polish" or "sompund finish"..

Hey Robb,

The guys are correct, it is 1000 grit and known as our "compound" finish.  Be careful when applying by a spinner (if you want the coverstock to have more of a flat/matte finish), it can apply a shine (with some pressure) to the ball as Clint states.
