Grit on Equation?
« on: September 25, 2006, 03:07:22 AM »
Hello all,

I've put about 20-30 games on my Equation so far and it seems like its starting to lose its backend.  I want to do a resurfacing soon, does anyone know what the underlying grit and what polish to use to get it back to OOB?

Hey Noy,

Sorry, I don't have any info on the cover and restoration of the cover, but I wanted to ask you what you were seeing (losing backend, etc).  I just got an Equation a couple weeks ago and have put on about 10 games or so on it.  Have you cleaned the ball (power wash, clean n dull, soaking, etc) and still seen the backend loss?  I haven't cleaned mine beyond power wash yet, but I was going to this week.  I'm just worried that I'm going to see what you're seeing very soon.  Any info would be great.  Thanks

Its not a total loss of backend as it does still give me good backend.  There have been, after a couple of 3 game sets, where I havent cleaned it until a few days after.  The fact that I havent cleaned it as often as I should is probably the reason for the slight loss in backend.  I dont think you have a problem if you clean it on a regular basis.

I have my Equation drilled 4x2 with pin over ring and slightly to the left (left handed).  I get really good coverage with it on medium oil.  I can bowl straight up the 5-7 board and make it back (mind you im a stroker).  It that line starts to go brooklyn on me I can move over and swing it 3rd arrow to 2nd arrow and still have enough power to make it back.

It doesnt like carry down much.  When it gets too dry it starts to burn up.

Hey Buzz,

Power Wash is just Track's all purpose cleaner, so nothing big.  I just use a few sprays of it to clean the surface dirt off.  It's much like Atomic Cleaner or something along those lines.

Noy,

Give the ball a good cleaning and see how it reacts.  I try to clean my stuff fairly often.  Let me know how it reacts afterwards.  If it still sees a loss in reaction, I'm sure one of the gurus on this board will chime in.

The Equation's coverstock hates carrydown and by the drilling you have, that is why it is burning up most likely. The Track of the ball has probally started to dull a bit from use but, it will probally come back to life with a cleaning and re-applying polish to it. Use Magic Shine. It has a durable cover on it so, I tend to belive it just needs a cleaning and magic shine. With a polished ball, they need polish re-applied ever so often just like, dull balls need to be dulled back down.
