High Track
« on: December 31, 2005, 06:12:29 AM »
For a long time in the past I always tracked below the thumb hole, by at least an inch.

Last year, as part of some work in a clinic, I changed my release slightly so that I come a little more off the side of the ball.  Now, my track is pretty high.  Once in a while my first track will clip the thumb hole and then flare off of it.  This is more prevelant with my Desert Heat.

I have a couple questions about a high track.

1. What release generally causes a high track?
2. Is a high track a good thing, in terms of ball reaction?
3. Do do pin up over the fingers layouts work better for high trackers?  If so, why?

Thanks

cd,

Generally speaking it is normally a more up the back release that causes a bowler to track high.

In terms of ball reaction tracking high is usually pretty good. It has its good points and its bad points. Bowlers that tend to track usually do not have a problem with overreaction/underreaction issues.

Layout choices generally depend on what the bowler wants the ball to do. Pin up layouts are pretty safe as far as not hitting a finger hole or thumbhole. If it is only the thumb hitting and it is not hitting it by much a weighthole might be able to pull the flare over a bit and off of your thumb.

Goodluck,
Carl

I track high also and I could not throw the Desert heat at all! I tried 2 different drillings also. I found that I can throw my spare ball without hitting the thumb but, for some reason the Desert Heat always clipped it! I sold it to a buddy that has a medium track and at times he has had issues.
