I have been having trouble using my phenom for its intended condition, heavy oil. I bought the ball about a month ago with a 4 inch pin, and drilled the ball 4.5 inches pin to pap and the mb 2 inches right of my thumbhole. The pin ended up over my ring finger.
The problem has been that when the ball was left in box condition, it had the same look as my command zone arc that is drilled 3 by 3, but the phenom was maybe a board stronger. I know i have bowled on heavier patterns, because i've bowled on fresh oil and a 46 foot pattern a few times with it. Rollout is not a problem, as i know what that looks like.
I tried polishing it for the hell of it, and it ended up being extremely angular, like my old freak the way it hockey sticked at the end. It decreased its hook potential by probably a board.
Now my question to you guys is, do you think the surface was not strong enough in box condition? it seems as if its trying to hook through the oil, and eventually does make a pretty good move, but again, my command zone arc makes about the same move as it does and it is my heavier medium ball. What suggestions do you guys have, or do you just think that maybe i am expecting it to hook too much? Is this all i can expect to use on heavy oil? i'm just worried in case i ever run into a flood and am not sure if this ball will hit well enough because of the lack of angle it will most likely create.

A 4 inch pin is not a good selection for this type
of ball and a heavy oil condition. You probably would
have been better off with a 2-2.5 inch pin with a top weight
of about 3 Oz. A four inch pin will tend to go to long,
depending on the drilling but it leaves you limited drilling
options.

the 1500 smooth surface is to make it more playable those with very slow ball speed. Adjusting the surface of a bowling ball is not a sin, so I am glad that you took that path.

One major problem with people wanting a Morpheous or Morpheous 2.0 for oil is that the ball drillers are not quite drilling them for the heavy oil that the bowler wants. Drillers are placing the pins is a strong position and the MB just right of the thumb. That is by no means an oil MB placement. When you encounter oil you want the ball to get into a roll as soon as possible and placing the MB on or past the bowler's VAL is the way to accomplish this.

I am really starting to think that they should make pro shop operators attend clinics before they can drill a strong MB ball.
