Heat vs. Hexplosion
« on: May 14, 2005, 06:12:53 AM »
I see most of the staff members recommending 1 or the other or both for dry lanes and I was wondering how they compare to each other.

I recently acquired the Hexplosion (drilled 4x2) but find it way to strong for dry lanes in the OOB finish (haven't messed with the surface yet.)

My Hexplosion is at 600 grit and it works best on a nice medium pattern for me.

BUT ONLY WITH A 7x5 drilling and pin over the middle finger!!!!!

Neither of those ball with a normal drilling are for dry lanes!! (EXCLAMATION POINT)

boondoggle,

4x2 is too strong of a layout for the hexplosion to be used on dry. My first hexplosion was 5x 4.5 and it worked well on dry. 4x2 is going to make it too strong though.

That drill is way too strong for the dry, as everyone else has said. I like Ex's layout for dry he suggested, that may very well work for you.

Bartender,

What do you consider a basic stacked layout? Where is the pin position and CG position?

I bought a used HexPlosion that Pin under bridge CG swung out about 1" (about 4 1/2 by 3 1/2 for me) - That ball explodes on dry lanes. Go with the guys above me - they'll give you the skinny.

Unless you have a 5000 grit gloss polish on that Hexplosion, I suspect the lanes are not "dry". "Drier" than average, maybe; "Dry", no.

My Hex can handle more oil than the Heat, but the Heat does have more backend (obviously). They are drilled the same and both are out of box factory surfaces. I prefer the Heat because it gets through the heads better. There is a place for my Hexplosion, just not everyday, but it is a great tourney ball!
