Title: heat vs. horizon
Post by: tickle it on August 29, 2006, 02:20:47 PM
i need a versatile medium oil ball for the ths on my monday night league.  i have been throwing a beat up, old track heat.  i was thinking of getting a new heat or a roto-grip horizon and was wondering if anyone has thrown both or seen both thrown.  if so how do they compare?   thanks

I have not used the Horizon, and I have only seen it thrown once. It seemed like it was good on the lighter side of mediums just like the Heat.

To compare they get simliar length and have simliar movement down the lane. The Heat hits much harder in my opinion.

To me the Horizion is better for medium and the heat is better for medium light. The Horizion is quite a few more boards stronger than the heat IMO. It will also handle oil better. Nothing against the heat, they are just different balls IMO.

I have both balls. For me the Horizon is the stronger of the two, a good, strong medium bowling ball. The Heat is more of a medium/light ball, somewhat similar to the Solution Power Plus Ex. Both are good bowling balls. For a medium bowling ball I would check out the Heat Blast from Track. Another good ball, or perhaps the Equation. But if you're choices are the Horizon or the Heat, for medium conditions, I would go with the Horizon. But check out the Equation.

The Horizon is a much stronger ball than the Heat.  Lower RG and higher flare with a stronger cover.  The Heat, a great ball, requires more friction overall and needs cleaner backends.  It works better on the lighter side of medium.  I've posted some serious numbers with the Heat as the conditions dried out. The Horizon is not as sensitive to carrydown and handles more oil so it's definately more medium.  It also has better recovery.

Both are good balls, just serve different purposes.

Haven't thrown the horizon but I own the heat as well as the triton heat.  Heat is a great remake of the trition heat.  In my opinion it is the best ball ever made.  Always the first out of the bag on bowling nights
