Heavy oil balls.

Why Does track have so many heavy oil balls? Mutant, Freak, Super freak, Animal, Animal Untamed, Phnom, Phnom unleashed, Rule?

There was nothing going on so i just decided to post this.

One simple answer.. That what people want.. Track wouldn't make them if they didn't sell well..

Just to chime in on this, the Mutant, Freak and Super Freak are all discontinued. As for the other 5 you mentioned, the all handle different amounts of "heavy" oil. The Animal handles the most oil by far. Next would probably be the Phenom, then the Unleashed, then the AU. As for the Rule, I dont know where that will fit yet as I havent thrown one yet.

If you were to try to throw the Unleashed on a true heavy oil shot, the ball would not work very well. Just as if you tried to throw an Animal on a broken down heavy shot, it might not work as well as one of the others. That is why they have alot of "heavy oil" balls.

Plus, lets face it, ALOT of centers are putting down alot more oil on their lanes nowadays. Maybe not so much in the summer, but in the fall leagues around here, I see anything from a med/hvy shot to a flood on a weekly basis. Even the guys who crank the ball are playing a direct line!!

A lot of that has to do with Marketing hype for the uneducated masses.hey want to hear power, hook,etc.. type buzzwords. That equals Money plain and simple. I'm all for Track doing it.

I know better. I know that if I take a Unleashed drill it pin up 5 x 5-3/4MB
and polish it I have a Light oil ball that can create a great entry angle.

can you turn one into a dry lane ball? maybe not. certainly a waste of 200+ dollars to butcher the ball. but Given there shells and the strong influence of their core I can be set for all but the real dry or real short light pattern.

even then I would "Rule" Them out!

I agree with Omega.

The layout you choose on these balls make such a difference. I believe with the correct layout and surface prep I could use an Animal on dry------everything except the driest of dry. Same with all of the other balls that you mentioned. They are all so drilling specific... place the pin in a longer position and the MB is a weaker position and they could be used on a lighter pattern. Surface is going to determine most of the reaction a ball has......polish a Phenom Unleashed and drill it for length and a tamed down backend and you have a ball that could get down the lane nicely when the lanes start to dry out.

I did not call the Animal a great dry lane ball. Infact it is quite the opposite. It is the best oil ball on the market.


What I am saying is that if you put the surface at the proper grit or polish and have the correct layout it could be used on med/light conditions. Dry was probably a bad choice of wording. It could be drilled to actually be a decent skid flip ball, and being particle it would not overreact off of the dry boards like reactives tend to do.

I should have just said it in my first post...but I will say it now. The key to these balls is that they can be drilled in manners that are unbelieveable. I have not found another ball that can be drilled and made as versatile as the equipment that the morpheous or morpheous 2.0 cores.

I wondered the same thing when I saw a guy throwing the Animal Untamed. I have an Animal and a Phenom Unleashed and between those 2 balls, I really don't need anything else in the houses I bowl in. When the Animal gets to be too strong, I just get the Unleashed out and can adjust my lines to the conditions. Why would I need an Untamed? Unless you bowl in a lot of different houses on varying conditions, there's no way you need a huge arsenal of balls. I think the people who have mentioned marketing being a big part of it are right on track( no pun intended). A lot of bowlers are conditioned to think that they need to change balls instead of making other adjustments.
