Mini Review: Blue Heat
« on: July 02, 2005, 04:15:46 AM »
Ball:
4x4 layout, pin is 2 1/4 above midline with X hole 2 inches below my PAP and it is located on my VAL. I have tried this ball with a few surfaces: factory, Clean n Sheen and Magic Shine. I sanded the surface to 800 and put a coat of Magic Shine on it, this is what worked best for what I was looking for.

Line:
The line is going to naturally vary depending on the lane conditions. No matter what kind of shot is down I can usually play a small swing with it. Standing on 30 hitting 15 at the arrows with my breakpoint around 10 board.

Reaction:
I drilled the ball identical to my Slash to see the difference. Its reaction is very similiar to the Slash, just add a few boards because the Blue Heat is a little stronger. The only difference that I have really seen other than the Blue Heat being stronger is that if you can find decent oil in the middle of the lane the Blue Heat will actually give you pretty strong reaction in the backends.

Impact:
The Blue Heat does not hit overly hard. When it hits the pocket it just takes the pins down. This is a ball that I relate to a couple I have had in the past as far as hit, they just hit, take care of the pins and don't leave you the back row when they move strong.

Readability:
OOB the Blue Heat just wouldn't finish very strong. Alot of the places around here have fresh backends. So when I tried the Magic Shine it changed the ball. I still like the Slash better as a benchmark ball, but if you want a reaction identical to the Slash but you need a little more strength throughout the lane this is the ball for you.

Comments:
I still have only had about 8-10 games on the Blue Heat. This ball flares ALOT! With its OOB finish it is not quite as strong as the Arsenal Aggressive, but it will be stronger in oil than the Rule. The Blue Heat is one of those balls that isn't "super hyped", but does the job very well<<<<<<this statement reminds me alot of the Slash

Great review Carl- hopefully I'll get a chance to view this ball in person in a couple of weeks if Rock77 and I meet up to bowl as planned. Considering I have a Rule (lightly polished), a Slash (taken down to 800 grit, then lightly polished) and an out of box Havoc, do you think a Blue Heat would be necessary for a different look in the bag? I do have plans to get a GP2 before the end of summer to be my newer heavy oil ball...just want to make sure I'm set up well for the fall league(s) as well as more tournament action that I've been hitting.

Matt,

The Blue Heat will be stronger than your other equipment. The closest would probably be the Havoc. I drilled my Blue Heat like my Slash because I wanted to compare the 2.

Just imagine this, if it were drilled like your Slash and the same surface was on each then the Blue Heat is going to be a good 2-3ft sooner with the same control look on the backends that the Slash gives.

EX,
Is it possible that the Blue heat might be a better fit for my 3 ball arsenal than say the slash or 5.0? The GP2 I have is in Box condition and the Hexplosion is 600 grit.  What do you think?

chitown,

I don't see the Blue Heat being as good on the heavy stuff as the Animal. Those balls may make a good arsenal for you, but don't expect the Blue Heat to be more than your Animal.

TJFreaky,
It really depends on what kind of reaction you are looking for in that 3rd slot. I think the 5.0 would fit better because it is going to give you a different look than the GP2. The 5.0 will be longer and stronger than the GP2.
Let me know what the GP2 and hexplosion do for you on the lanes currently and what you want the 3rd ball to do and I will give you a better answer.

TJ,

Just by its natural design, the 5.0 or Slash still fits in between the GP and Hexplosion a little better.  Ex and I both saw the Blue Heat being fairly strong which would lean it closer to your GP2.

I had a chance to use the Blue Heat tonight. I pulled out my Slash and it wouldn't recover enough. My natural move is to the 5.0, but I couldn't keep it from diving through the face. I then tried the Slash playing straiter and it was just too unpredictable.  I was living in OVER/UNDER HELL! I switched to the Blue Heat in the 10th frame of the first game.

Second game I started with the front 8, opened the 9th (wiffed a 7 pin). I am not much for posting scores because that is more the bowler than the ball. I am going to make an exception here. Game 1 was lousy 167. Game 2 264 (7 count on the 12th shot).

It gets interesting from here.......balls kept getting stuck throughout the entire 2nd game, so they moved us. The pair we moved to was far different than the first pair....it was even more over/under. The outsides were drier, but the insides were tighter.

First 2 frames 6/, 6/ both leaves were the 3-6-9-10. I made the adjustment and finished with 251.

I mention the scores here because I went through a few other balls and couldn't find a good, consistent reaction. I grabbed the Blue Heat and it worked like a charm.

Remember- I adjusted the OOB finish, touching it lightly with Magic Shine.
