Hex Darkside
« on: November 12, 2003, 06:25:52 AM »
I have had more of a chance to use this ball lately, and all I can really say is WOW. This ball is probably the best kept secret in the bowling industry. If I had not sold all of the ones I could get online here, they would have sold themselves just from people watching me throw it.

This ball does exactly what I wanted it to do. I fits just under my Thrash. It goes about 3 ft further, but when it turns left it turns so quick there is not time left for it to turn on its turn signal----then SMASH. The Darkside hits harder than my Thrash, my Dynothane THING, and almost anything I have right now. If you try to use it in oil though, this thing will hit like a marshmellow.

For me, with my ball speed this ball will absolutely not move in oil. I have to have fresh backends for this ball to work. For the normal league bowler, considering the normal house shot, and the average speed, this ball is the ticket.

There are still some out there to buy, and for the price, pro shops can let them go very cheap. Buy them up while you can.

No one around here has even had them besides me. I sold all but 3 of them online, so there are 2 others floating around my area.

I think I am able to still get 16lb, and 14lb, that is it. Watch ebay closely, you may be able to land one.

I second your thoughts Excaliber, however the ball will skid on oil for me as well.  I throw the ball 15-16 MPH and find it pretty sensitive to the juice.

With my layout I can better compare my Darkside to my Lane 1 XL, but it gets about two foot more length before it turns over.  The turn is smooth but more agressive than a Sonic Solid's would be.  I think this ball hits pretty hard as well, definitely harder than the Solid X and my XL did, but I did have some carry issues with the nine pin first night out.  I found though with some dry in the backs the ball still hit crisply, and didn't over or under react to the transition out of the oils.

This ball is just like you say, a house bowlers dream, but I'd stay away from the SUNBURNED heads, my Darkside is already showing track wear after six games.  I'd hate to ruin such a rare ball on the desert.

This ball has immediately found a place for me on all leagues except my Sunday night mixed DESERT open.  I can't bring myself to destroying such a work of art.
