Title: How Good is The Phoenix?
Post by: dw23 on May 29, 2007, 10:09:48 AM
I purchased a Phoenix while bowling the state tournament in Yuba City, CA and I'm wondering if and where it's going to fit in my arsenal. I know not many have one but I want to hear from the people that do or at least from the people that have seen it used by someone in person.

Thanks,
DW

I've had a Phoenix for a while now, and I actually like it.  From the specs, it's basically supposed to have the length of the PM, and the hook potential of the MM.  I had mine drilled very strong at first, and it reacted similar to my MM.  That, and the fact I wanted a strong ball I can play a tight line with if I needed to, I changed the drill pattern, and altered the surface.  Shot 780 with it after the change.

With the major surface change I'm making with my PM tomorrow, the Phoenix is now my benchmark ball for my THS league.

dw23,

The Phoenix for me was a very very good benchmark type ball. I did not drill it overly aggressive or too weak. It had good roll in the midlane a continuous arc on the backends.

I reminded me alot of Ebonites V2 Solid, if you have seen it thrown.

It's a good benchmark ball but after throwing it, I understand the position that Ebonite took.  It is not a high performance ball IMHO, it's a good piece (don't get me wrong) but doesn't qualify as a high performance piece.

For me, it offers a similar reaction of the Heat with a touch more oil handling capability.
