Track Balls at the ABC Tournament
« on: May 11, 2004, 12:22:08 AM »
Maybe someone that has already bowled the tournament can
let us know what balls they had good reactions with?

I know some people that bowled well are afraid to tell what
they used and where they played because they don't want to
be pushed down the money list. Let's face it, know matter
what someone tells us we still have to make shots.

It would help to know where to start.

4 out of 5 guys on the other team that went with us used Track exclusively.  The best looks I during the fresh team shot was with the mutant, slightly polished.  I didn't see any of them bring out the Animal, which I knew they had.  In D/S, the guys had better luck with the Freak Out, and stil the Mutant.  I'm sure other people will chime into this one.

A buddy of mine used his Havoc (drilled 4 in PINx 6.5in MB in his track) surface left in box. He did well, atleast as well as someone could do out there. He made like $1800 in brackets. He said he had a steady line playing around 11 board, straight up.

Well I leave tomorrow for Reno and wanted to get any last suggestions on what should go and what should stay home. Now that a couple of new balls have come out I wanted to know if anyone has new info on what has worked or what they believe will work based on what they have heard/seen. I'm really curious to see how the Untamed will work on the fresh shot. All suggestions welcomed.
Thanks,
DW

Hey DW,

FWIW, I just talked to another friend and customer today.  The team set has pretty good oil and is pretty tight(between 15-20).  However, the singles and doubles sets are dry, especially the heads.  I heard quite a few people say that but that was no different then 3 yrs ago for me there.  The OB is also still there, unless you're very accurate, 4-5 is pretty tough to play consistently.  Good luck.. you can fill me in when you get back, I bowl next Thur and Fri.

Thanks Rick,
I will definitely fill you in on Monday. BTW, I drilled the Untamed today but I only got to throw it 2 games at my home house. All I can say is WOW! I can't wait to throw it more.
Thanks again,
DW

I had pretty good success with my Dry Heat out there.  I used it in Singles event after the track area really started to burn up.  I moved in and played the traditional 20 to 10 bump and shot 680.  It is drilled straight over the label (pin above bridge and cg in the center of grip).I also altered the surface to it before I went out to Reno and it seemed to do the trick.

Well that was fun!

I played the wrong part of the lane for team and doubles. Played 18, 19, 20 out to 13 and didn't have a consistent line to the pocket. I changed my hand position (roll more up the back) and moved right to play 14 to 10 and finally shot decent (640). The strong dull equipment (Unleashed, Untamed) never match up for me. They were to strong. The Crash and the Freak Out gave me the best look and carry.

If anyone wants more information I'll give all I can.

Okay, I'm back!  Anyone going to the Nats should wear gas masks cause I stunk  up the joint.

DW read the shot real well.  I just couldn't play out there, too slow.  I ended up standing 38, hit about 18 to 12-13 at the break.  Two crucial things I must say about the shot, "Execution and more Execution".  It really showed where your game was at.  If I executed, I struck, when I didn't, I didn't strike...simple as that.  There was no tug line and the OB was at about 6-7 board.  Dw was also correct on the stronger equipment, no need for a strong ball.  Not even on the fresh oil for team, the heads and midlanes really started to grab quick.  I had to fluff it thru the heads but hit the ball real late in my swing just to help carry out corners.  If I fluffed it all the way down, it wouldn't carry.  If I hit it a hair early in my swing or didn't extend on my follow thru, it went thru the nose.

I shot T-573, D-591, and S-547.  I missed about 11-12 makable spares.  Oh, big key, it's hooking on the pindeck, no joke.  I chopped 3 (6-10) combos, I even saw plastic turn and pick the 6 a few times.  I had 30 guys with me and there were quite a few series below 500 and that was from 210+ bowlers.  These guys know how to play but this shot was a little demanding.

Srlunatic, pm me for more info or call the shop and I'll call you Ex.  Anyone else interested in more info, just pm me and I'll get back to you.  Good Luck!

On edit: Forgot to say that I was fluffing my Untamed thru team just to have some surface and I went to my Freak Out for S+D, both balls are drilled for control and were OOB.

Rick,

Greetings!!! Well glad you saved all your big numbers for Bowler's Journal...*laugh*...

Seems Reno is what I always remember Reno to be....flying......

Think polishing the hell out of my Phenom Unleashed was an excellent idea ....and with the V2 Clean Polished and the Spirit highly polished, I should have some options......have always found that strong equipment is needed at the BJ and other side tourney's, but bring the weaker stuff to ABC's..

Will drop you a line later.........

Sure you still want to bowl with me Srlunatic?

Your polished Unleashed may do well on the team set so long as you can clear the heads.  There's some room to the right if you're deep and have some turn behind it.  Just remember what you finish with by the 3rd game of team cause that's what you'll hit for singles and doubles, they oil before every team only.  You get 10 mins shadow for team and one shot per lane in S+D.

Your stuck with me Rick....too late to get out of it now...*laugh*....

Really like the look of my Highly Polished Unleashed.....gets down the lane so much easier and doesn't snap off the dry.  Figure that will be the starting ball...and probably down to the V2 Clean and then the Spirit.......love that Spirit...have to say best 60 dollar ball ever made......

See you in a couple days!!!
