How is everyone liking the Mako

What do people think of the Mako? I am strongly considering drilling one up.

Good piece, strong with backend thru the deck very nice. Falls in line with the new age HP ball that is more back end..

That's what I've seen as well. A friend of mine who has quite a bit of hand just got one. He usually doesn't match up very well with the stronger, surfaced solids but the Mako looks really nice for him. Doesn't burn out early and hit like a marshmallow like other balls in that mold from previous years.

EBI is doing a really good job getting more of that kind of motion out of their high-end balls. As it stands I would probably rank them like this in terms of earliest to latest out of the big asymmetrical pieces in the four lines:

Tyrant > Gauntlet > Mako > Maverick

Good, quality stuff. And that extends down to the third tier lines. I'm not overly impressed with the lighter oil stuff but the same can be said about pretty much everything across all the brands. Nothing is actually weak anymore.

Anyways, I think the Mako would be a fine choice. I'm a big fan of the color scheme too. Not that it matters, but the ball definitely stands out.

The Tyrant series intrigues me also, I have not thrown them but I like the look I have seen from them.
Also the Impulse Solid is a nice piece for a solid you can get deep and it still goes thru the deck. Really like the look I have with the Impulse Solid..

I think the better question is, "Does anyone think they WON'T come out with a Mako Pearl?"

I have a Tyrant and a Mako. They both hook a lot but the shape is a lot different. The Tyrant is 5 1/2" pin 55 deg MB 4000 Abralon, the Mako is 6" Pin 45 deg MB 500/2000. The Tyrant gets off of the spot faster than a Mako, but the Mako is still makes a big curving motion. The shape of the Mako stays a lot more consistent through transition and it responds better to release adjustments for me.

Mako is like a Legion Solid/Gamebreaker on steroids.

Tyrant is that rare assymetric solid that can create a lot of angle with surface and still retains it's strength downlane with polish.

That is a bit shocking, since I've heard that the Tyrant is the smoothest assym coming out of the factory.

A staffer friend of mine has a 5 board difference in his 4" x 55mb Tyrant and his 5 1/2" x 75mb pin up. The tall core lopes quite a bit, it does need oil, but it doesn't burn up early. Tyrant really lets me know when I'm able to use it. If there's not enough oil or it's too short of a pattern, it just makes the turn a lot sooner. I would consider the Mako a bit more usable, with the weaker pin placement for me, I feel like I can cover almost every arrow on the lane if I had to with the Mako. It really lets you carve out your shot on the lane. With the Tyrant, that's strictly for inside angles for me due to the huge move it makes when it does hook.

i threw the Mako for the 1st time last week, my PSO had a demo ball & i asked to use it. it was pin up cg in palm drill but span was short for me 4 1/2". I matched the best i could w/the inserts he had for it.  I was very surprised on how well this ball rolled for me, very smooth & controlled move. was able to use it all 3 games and by the 3rd game i was playing deep inside & the ball never burnt up like most strong asymmetrical balls do for me.  i am going to try it again this week to see if it was the ball or just a case of new ball-itis . if it rolls well again i might pick 1 up for next season.
