Will the 607A die?
« on: November 30, 2010, 02:51:41 AM »
I have had alot of ebonite, hammer and track balls that I loved. They have all died. I had The One, Big One, Black Widow, Game Breaker, and The Rising. I have been out of bowling for a couple of years and went to a demo day. I also tested a Mission 2.0 that I liked. I am not sure if that one would die either. Does the new equipment die like the older ones did?

Depends on the nature of the ball, the usage, the user, the conditions, and the maintenance of the ball.

I have had balls last for years and balls that lasted for less than 30 games.

The most important factor is maintenance.  Unless a ball is a defective dud, properly maintained it will last for at least a year at minimum, possibly for several seasons depending on the use.  Keeping the oil out of a modern ball is getting a little more difficult as the absorbtion rates incease, but it is possible.

Clean the ball after EVERY set with a good BOWLING BALL SPECIFIC cleaner to keep the absorbed oil to a minimum.  Touch up surface as needed, Hot water bath every 12 games or so.

For the love of bowling, NEVER stick your bowling balls in the oven!!!
A few short hot water baths will do the trick, if you think its not enough, take them to your local shop to be revived or rejuvinated.

The other factor is use.  If the ball is your benchmark and you almost always throw it, it will eventually die, and likely before anything else in your bag.  I cannot tell you when that will be...could be 30 games, could be 300, could more.

Mines hasnt died yet. And its been through about 60+ games. Ive just been taking care of it. Like Resurfacing and Re-polishing it after a week of full bowling.

Still going strong One of my favorite bowling balls to throw in the bag, and looks great going down the lane

The balls that died on me lasted about 6 to eight weeks on average. I was bowling atleast 30 games a week. The balls were still lasting about 200 games. I regularly cleaned them and wiped the oil off after every shot. I have a smokin inferno and a smashR that I put a ton of games on and they still hook like new. Is any ball made now going to die by 100 to 200 games?

Im not to sure, but... No offense to Hammer Bowling or anything.. We've been having problems with the Hammer Plaque and Swagga dying too fast.

I thought it was someone that had a Lemon ball or something, but we had about 4 people complain about the ball not hooking or doing anything on the lane after about 35-40 games.
Even with resurfacing to box finish, there was nothing we could do to make the ball like new again. And the ball would still be dead :'(

Not trying to say anything bad about Hammer or anything. The ball is good, just idk whats really going on. Maybe its the coverstocks or something.. Im not 100% sure :--------------------
