Equation Mini-Review comparison to Raw Doom...
« on: September 06, 2006, 10:02:58 AM »
I threw the Track Equation alongside my Hammer Raw Doom today.
They are both in box condition.

Hammer Raw Doom

Track Equation

The EQ is about 4 boards stronger than the RD, and a bit more angular on the back end. EQ gets through the heads and mid-lane easily. I kept moving in, and when I got into about 18-20 board the RD could not turn the corner. The EQ could make the move on the back-end, as deep as, 20-22 out to about 7-8 board.

I was bowling on a chopped up open bowling condition.
The EQ rolled through the carry down and slop that was out there, while the RD squirts a little. I like the separation in reaction, between the 2 balls.
I'll see how the EQ works in league tomorrow night, which is a tad oilier. (The house runs the heads before league, no strip.)

Seemed like I could get a little more hand into the EQ, as I added 1/4 reverse pitch to the the thumbhole. Went from 1/4 reverse to 1/2 reverse, as an experiment. Experiment was successful...I like the feel, thumb clears the back of the thumbhole better upon release. Gained a few revs to boot, which I needed.

I have a very good feeling about this ball.

Brunswick,Lane#1,Morich,Hammer,Ebonite,Columbia,AMF,Storm,RotoGrip,Track......they all leave ten pins, I swear after I try dynothane and lanemaster if the ten pin is still there I might begin to think it might just be
me...... (finally decided to add a signature)

I've been hearing good things about the Inertia also...So many balls, and so little time, and money.

Do you think with the more reverse in the thumb is what contributed to more movement in this ball compared to the Doom?

How does this ball hit?

Hey Duke, thanks for the feedback.  This was my original feeling but wasn't sure do my limited exposure to the Raw.  The Equation is definitely turning into a very popular ball with most of the guys reporting back with the same reaction.  Even at my speed, it really clears easily with a strong but controlled finish.  In four different houses now, I've been able to put up strings with this ball so that tells me it "is" the ball....

Chi,

I think I'm getting out of the thumb quicker, am under the ball more, which is helping put more hand into the ball.

The ball hits very hard, when the operator trusts the ball.

I'll bring it on Saturday.
Hope you're still making it up to the Beverly outing.

Later,
Bud.

Rich I will be there bud.  I can't wait to see it in action.  I'm curious how it carry's compared to the Doom.  If it has half the carry the Doom has then i'm sure it will be a great ball.

Duke Harding...goood review!

Me thinks I will have to give this ball a second look. I have a friend who is a Track rep, and has been testing this ball. He eventually just gave it away out of frustration. This is, however, no indictment. He just didn't "match-up" well to this piece.

I really appreciate that you put the same layouts on both balls to test them. I will have to do my own research to see what the buzz is all about.
Can't wait to hear your review after league play also.

Jesse James,

I used the Equation in league on Thursday, along with the Raw Doom and the EPX (drilled Axis).
The Equation was way to strong for the non-pattern they had out. The Doom woukd not carry the corners. The EPX fairly well playing inside 3rd arrow, slowing the ball way down.

I'm going to give the EQ a try on my Monday Sport League shot.
I used it today at the NE Illinois BR get together.
Used it on a Sr. PBA Regional condition.

Ball reacted really well, in spite of my bowling 1-step and finally 3-step approach, because of a fractured toe on my slide foot. (Fractured getting into a bathtub...major toe stub).

I love the length and backend this ball has. I'd like to get another EQ drilled for length...but I bought a Columbia Hi-Flare Urethane Scout for my Thursday league which is pretty brutal. ("Can't wait to bowl my Sport Shot League" brutal.   )

Rich did fairly well bowling with a 3 step approach.  The equation looked good.  Cool looking ball as well.  We bowled on a PBA senior regional pattern.

I'm still partial to my Dooms.  However I see Track is "Back on Track" with the equation.  Sorry for the pun!
