How much stronger is tthe Rule than the Xception?
« on: January 25, 2005, 10:32:53 AM »
I'm debating on which one to pick up. I'm looking for something that will hook in oil. The track sheet says the Xception is for mediums. I'm not sure if this would be a good idea if this is true, because I already have a Hexplosion for Mediums...Feel free to help out.

The Rule and X-Ception are a great combo. The Rule handles the oil much better, although not as well as an Animal or GP2, and the X-Ception kicks in when the Rule starts to burn early and you start leaving those pesky 10s. The X-Ception has LOTS more backend than the Hexplosion in general. I have one of each, and generally, I see the X-Ception kick harder and would be a great addition for your arsenal.

Oil is NOT its prime use. The 3 High Performance balls Track has come out with this year, the GP2 (HEAVY oil) Rule (medium to light heavy) and X-Ception (medium) are a great combo. The X-Ception shines in opening up the lane, and has lots of backend. However, both of mine will skate on the heavy stuff and if there is not clean backends, forget it. But that does have to do with me throwing as hard as I do and tracking as high as I do. I think in general it will do better in oil to due the power of the core and cover than the Hexplosion, there are better choices for heavy oil.

The answer depends on HOW much oil, and where it is.

I'm basically looking for a replacement for my Freak if it be neccessary. I liked the look that my freak gave me on both heavy oil and on mediums. For league, I usually see around medium conditions, however I am looking for something that will work on these mediums as well as will hook in oil for tournaments. I'm not sure what to get....reccomendations?

GP2 is a VERY versatile ball. Read Ex or Ten's review, and I just got mine today, so I will be reviewing them in a week or 2, once I get them drilled. Rule is good, but will not handle the heaviest of oil like the GP2 will. Cover is easily tweaked as well.

The GP2 is a little out of my price range. My thinking is that the Rule is going to be the best fit...If it can handle the heavier stuff, then it will be versitile enough for league as well where we see slightly less oil. I was also considering the Animal or Phenom Unleashed as replacments...thanks for all the help Clint!

For what you are looking to replace (something for heavier oil that you can still use on mediums I would purchase a Phenom Unleashed. Gets good length but great readable finish. I have used mine on both and the carry is very good. I like my Rule and it is sanded to 500 for oil but if a bunch of carrydown get there it is still a reactive ball and they need dry areas to react. The X-ception is a skid/flip type ball and it also needs dry (man does this thing carry). The Animal is a great heavy oil ball also and is a lot more versitile than people make it out to be. With the right drilling that also would be a good choice. I do not have a GP2 yet but Rick, Ex, or Clint could help you there. But my first choice for what you are looking for would be an Unleashed. Remember that the newest ball might not always be the best.

TjFreaky,

To replace the Freak the best of what you have listed is going to either be the Unleashed or the Rule. Between the 2 I like the Rule better, it picks up roll better for me than the Unleashed did. The GP2 would probably be too much ball and the Xception not quite enough. The Animal would roll far too early to be close to the Freak.

Do you have a preference for reactives or particles? The Rule is reactive and Unleashed is particle. The difference between mine is simply where they hook. The Unleashed starts a little sooner for me and the Rule goes a little longer and has more backend. Mine are drilled the same way, although statics are probably a little diff due to the difference in starting top weight, etc.
