How strong is the 718a?
« on: March 06, 2011, 12:15:15 AM »
I'm trying to round out my tournament arsenal.  I have my eye on strong pearls and this one looks good.  I am a 16mph power stroker, around 350rpm and medium tilt.

What's in the bag:

Taboo

worn out Plague

607a SE, 1000 grit

Burn

Midnight Vibe

Pure Swing with TONS of shine

What I'm looking for:

I need a strong pearl to go to when the taboo is too much and the plague is leaving flat 10's.  I usually go to my burn but i would like something cleaner through the front part of the lanes.

Other info you should know:

607a is unusually strong, I know I have a lot of surface on it, but if i don't its a dart.

Midnight vibe is around a 6" pin, but it still hooks quite a bit

Pure swing is good when they're burnt, its very weak.

718A is a good piece, i chose the Bank Pearl over it because it was a bit smoother

anyone else?  I'm willing to listen to any other options from the hop-town brands.   Looking for a strong pearl that will fit above my burn and below my Taboo.  Cleaner through the fronts with a strong and continuous backend rxn.

I had a bowler whose team we were bowling against the other night had an Infinite Theory and it was a total flip monster. He was throwing it from around the 25 board to almost 5 and was making a very hard turn left. Looked like the ball struggled around the last game because our league the lanes dry out very quickly and he was getting some washouts and leaving some wierd shots. But the other games he threw it pretty well.

The 718A can and will definitely fit what you are looking for. For me it is one of the best "A" balls Track has made. The new core easily out flares the catback core. We have drilled about 9 of them the past week and a half and everyone loves it. It's one of those cover core combo that matches up to a lot of bowlers. Let me know if you have any other questions.

If not the 718A, the Hammer Infection, with Polish. Find this to be very skid-flip w/OOB + Polish. Layout was Pin Up 6 x 4, @ 60, no hole. Getting 718A soon, will let you know. Going to go 5 x 5 (Pin and MB to PAP) pin up.

Be careful with the Infection and polishing it. I polished mine with the surface at 2000. Made the ball very over/under for me.

I've seen a lot of people throw and love the 718A.  I am thinking of getting one considering most of my pearl equipment is drilled to pick up a little earlier and smooth on the backend.

I would go with the 718A, this ball is very angular and very versital. If you want to I have some video of me throwing it in my league on youtube. Just search for my name on youtube and it will come up with me throwing the 718A. Very very clean ball.

This might have already been answered. I'm looking for a ball for my wife. She had a 715a and liked that has a 607se, Outburst . Looking for a strong pearl would this be a good ball for her? Thanks

The 718A is a great choice for a strong pearl in her bag.  If you wanted something just a little stronger, you'd need to look at an Infinite Theory.  I've got a 718A and it's one of the best pills I've punched out over the past few years.
