How to help my Equation?
« on: May 19, 2007, 09:08:48 AM »
Hey everyone, my Equation seems dead .. It used to hook, hit, and roll perfectly, but nowadays it's just junk. It hooks a little less than it used to. It's hit is just disgusting.. the balls looks as though it bounces off pins rather than hooking right through them. And it also can never kick out a ten pin, and leaves weird splits. It's just not like it used to be

There's probably about 200 games on it. I gave it a hot water bath (which brought an EpX-T1, Hawg Zilla, Road Hawg, and others back to life), and it never helped. After a lot more games, i sanded it to 600, then hot water bathed it, and re-polished it, and it still didn't help. The ball just never seems to be like it used to be. It even sometimes sets up too early... yea this is a pearl ball. No reason to be setting up early. It never used to set up early .. How do i fix this ball? I've tried everything but a resurfacing. Maybe it needs this? I'm not sure, but this ball needs to be back to the way it used to be. (my favorite ball) .. Does anyone have any suggestions? Sorry this is kinda long. Thanks in advance

Well you say it was checking up early, that is normally a sign of too little oil and the ball may be burning up.

Also make sure you do more than one round on the hot water bath and have the coverstock dulled before you do this and give it a resurfacing when done. Chances are you will be able to bring the ball back but Track and Columbia do unfortunately have a rep for ball death, or atleast in my area they do.

Well this is my first Track ball loosing its reaction. When i used it and it was checking up early, all my other stuff wasn't. (Inertia, Polished Fury) so i don't know what that was all about.. I'll try a resurfacing when i get a chance too I guess. Maybe that will work..

Hmm that is intersting, I'm just assuming you spoke with Beans about this already, if you you should as it seems he knows his stuff and might be able to help if he watches you bowl with it.

Yeah beans would probably be able to help.. the problem is, he lives about 40 minutes away from me, and his home center is junky wood lanes. I mean JUNK. They leave dirt rings and chip your ball up and stuff. They suck.. but i'll email beans now, and see what we can do.. I think if i throw the Equation there, it would react even worse lol

Brian,

600 grit plus polish is likely to make it hook very early. If I'm not mistaken (check with Carl on this), its stock cover prep was something like 3000 grit sanding then a healthy dose of Magic Shine. Is yours just checking up too early, burning itself up in the heads and midlane?

Also have they changed the oil amounts where you're using it? Sometimes, that's hard to see.
