I messed up my GP2 with a Green scotch brite
« on: March 02, 2005, 04:22:30 PM »
went bowling tonight after using the green scotch brite and the bowl was terrible... if i hit my mark sometime it moved into the pocket sometime it jumped over teh head pin... sometime it would not even break into the pocket... even when it did roll in to the pocket there was no real snap and it often just hit like a wet noodle... leaving 7-10 spilts and just terrible... So i should go to the shop i bought it at and just sand it back to 1500?? I think i must have applied to much pressure...

WOuldn't be surprised if it's now gripping far too soonand burning itself up in the heads and the midlane. When they told you to use the green nylon pad which is 600 grit, I'm sure they meant to press VERY lightly. You probably converted it to 600 grit totally.

Yes, go back at sand it to at least 1200 grit, with silicon carbide wet/dry sandpaper AND LOTS OF WATER. (You can then use Track's Clean and Smooth, if necessary) After you're finished, clean it with a cloth or strong paper towel (like Bounty) and Clean & Dull FOLLOWING THE EXACT DIRECTIONS ON THE BOTTLE.

Hey frock,

I think Charlest is correct on the ball burning up.  Your description of 7-10's and hitting like a "wet noodle" definitely sound like it's not retaining enough energy at the pins.  Couple of suggestions, 1) apply a coat of Clean and Sheen to it by hand or 2)go over the ball with a gray scotchbrite to smoothen out that 600 grit that's currently on the surface.  Either action should put a smoother surface on the ball and help you clear the heads easier while retaining the proper amount of energy for the backend.  Hope this helps...
