If you were me.....
« on: February 25, 2005, 05:42:46 AM »
Here is my small problem.

I went to my driller and was gonna have an animal untamed plugged and drill.
But the cost of this to be done is about the price of new balls at clearance.
The cost is high because he has to re-layout and rebalance the ball with
the reaction I am wanting because it is currently drlled tamed early with
small arc. While I am looking for a strong backend good for oil.

I have a choice to have it relaid out or get credit and buy balls with clearance
price.

Choices for new balls are

revmaster
(ebonite) primal instinct
Columbia wow and pearl
Columbia bully.

I am looking for something good for oil clears the head well with a strong backend. Note I am a bit tight on budget. Which way should I go?

Thanks.

plug and re-drill are $30 at most of local pro shops around here.

i don't know why he'd charge you twice for plug, then for re-drill.

Well none of those balls you listed are very good oil balls (in my opinion) so I'd go with redrilling.

u could get a bully and then play with the surface a bit, like dull it to 600 or something. Th ebully is strong in the backend, and i think a 600 surface would work good for a heavy oil condition. U could also bring it down lower if u want to 400 or something.

WOW Pearl is one of the most underrated balls ever to come out..

would be very happy with it...had one for ages....good on anything but heavy oil or toast..

Get credit for what?  If the driller messed something up and is offering credit toward another ball, why doesn't he just fix the one you have?  Something sounds weird here...

I should have made it clear. He will take my ball and resell it to other and give me credit for my purchase. I didn't buy the ball from him but here from br.

btx,

You have a couple of options of the balls you listed.

The Revmaster will start up well in the midlanes and give a very strong backend reaction. I would not hesitate to get that one......"if I were you". BTW---there are many of us out there that love this ball. I hope to find a NIB 15lber soon....broke my heart having to get rid of it when I dropped in ball weight.

The other I would go for if I could not get the Revmaster is the Bully, It will roll up a little quicker than the Revmaster, but I see it having less backend.

Just my 2 cents.

Hey btx,

Not sure how much oil you want to use these balls on but IMHO, the longest ball with backend in this list is the Col Wow pearl.  The RevMaster and Untamed are nice midlane reading balls that can actually work in heavier oil because they'll want to pull up and continue motion where the Wow Pearl can shoot past the breakpoint.  It really depends on how much oil you have, hope this helps some.

I have a Revmaster, it is my heavy oil ball. Not to say it's a hook monster 'cause it's not. In oil it reads the lane real well. Doesn't squirt, reads the breakpoint well and retains energy real well. Explosive hit. The less it hooks the better it hits. Surface very tuneable. If use w/ too little oil it hook/stops w/ poor carry. Gotta love a ball that tells you when to put it away.

Revmaster was an awesome ball for me. Its time has just passed with all the new equipment out there. But, with the right bowler, the ball will still work pretty good for most patterns. Mine revved up early and still had some pop.

You sound like you really want the Untamed.

When you want something and settle for something else, you always come out on the losing end so ... I would have the Untamed redone. If his plugging price is too much, take your business somewhere else. Or tell them that's what you are going to do and see if the price becomes more reasonable.

The Animal Untamed is a great ball. It's one of my favorites and my go to ball when I get in trouble.

You won't be sorry.

Plug, redrill around here is $30 to $35.

Thanks guys. I have decided to take revmaster. As much as I wanted the untamed, aside from the costs, I don't like to have it plugged and drilled another place. I will consider the current layout of a ball next time before I purchase any used balls (you live and you learn).

Don't have much of a choice for a ball driller. Aside from the next driller y being far from where I am, this ball driller we have is actually pretty good so he is worth the cost and is a good friend of mine.
