Track's current benchmark ball
« on: June 15, 2012, 10:34:03 AM »
So, I've got a few used track pieces I've been throwing lately. A 505A and 916AT. The 505A is long and strong on THS or medium conditions. The 916AT I'm still playing with trying to figure out where it fits for me. It seems pretty strong at 2000 grit, but longer than I think I'd like. I may need to adjust the surface.

Right now, my benchmark ball is my track freak. It's pretty old and worn. Back in the day, it hooked as much as the 916AT. Now, I keep it at 1000 grit and it reads the lanes reasonably well and tells me where I need to go. The ball has seen better days so I am looking for a benchmark ball. Any ideas?

I would suggest a 503C. Its in the middle of the performance range for track. It has a nice smooth reaction.

Ditto on the 503C.  It offers a smooth and predictable reaction that makes it easy to tell if you need to go stronger, weaker or stay with the ball.

If you prefer sanded equipment I would look at the 503T. It's very smooth and not jumpy. If you're a lower rev guy, the 716C may be something to look at as well. It has a nice drive through the deck from what I've seen.

At a ball trial on our house 10 to 10 crown, the 716T was drawing oohs and aaahs from me!  League wet dry superstar at least for the left I believe!

Out of what's available right now I would recommend either the 503T or 503C, it really depends on how much oil you typically see on your regular house shot. If your proprietor is kind enough to put real oil on the lanes I'd go with the 503T, but if you are at a center of a proprietor who likes to skimp on the finer things then I'd go with the 503C. Personally, I'd get both.

for me my benchmark ball is my 503c

gives me a nice read on the lane...   I have the pin drilled out in the middle finger and the MB about 1 1/2 inches off the thumb hole..  so it does have a good backend reaction.

You can't go wrong with the 503c or 716c both r great balls I am a big fan of all the c's but my fav is the 716c it was the only ball I threw for my summer league just a good all around ball smooth and predictable.

for me, my benchmark is my 300T. I can almost always find a way to throw that ball on anything that isn't heavy oil

yeah. medium surface is strong enough to play straight on medium. and weak enough to be clean through the fronts when swinging the lane
