Anyone suggest a layout?
« on: December 28, 2005, 01:29:46 PM »
Desert Heat..15 lb 2" pin, 2 3/4 top.
Speed app 14 mph..ave revs...release results in end over end roll.

Want to drill this for length and smooth backend. My problem is I track high and usually put the pin above ring to keep me "safe".Previous pin "under"
drills usually clip thumb.
Would like to try pin under again if anyone can suggest a layout that will work.
Thanks in advance......

Hellbound,

There is a zone or area on a ball that ball drillers know is the safe zone for a pin to be placed. If you track that high if you go under you are more than likely going to clip. There really wouldn't be a layout with pin under that you could use that wouldn't clip unless you alter your release.

For a smooth reaction you may be able to get away with a pin on your PAP layout....but that still would have a chance to thump.

Hellbound,

Well-----honestly....it wouldn't be easy you would end up drilling the fingers VERY deep.

Ironhorse's suggestion of pin in finger isn't too bad, but it could also still make you clip. Some people are afraid of trying layouts with the pin in the ring finger, but it works great. Basically your pin safe zone is going to be from the middle of your finger holes up, if you are below that then it is going to be close.
A buddy of mine that works at another pro shop in the area has drilled balls with 2 inch pins for high trackers. He has put them on the upper portion of the bridge. It has worked well when he has done it. I have not tried this method yet.

Goodluck,

My experience with the Desert heat is that if you dont have a medium track or lower, its going to thump! I have used 2 different drillings with the same result (pin under bridge CG stacked, Pin under ring CG in center of span). I can throw a plastic ball without it thumping holes but not a Desert Heat for some reason. BTW, mine had a 2 inch pin also.

Hey Guys,

I have read alot of posts where people are thumping holes with the Desert Heat. I have one and I do NOT thump over the finger or thumb holes. Mine is drilled with a 4 1/2" Pin, Pin @ 1 o'clock and a weight hole on my PAP. I'm just wondering why I seem to be the only one who doesn't roll over any of the holes drilled in the Desert Heat. God Bless you all!

Well..Finally got my DH puched up.Went with Carls idea of pin next to ring finger with cg kicked out.Almost identical to diagram 4 on Track drill sheet.
Couldnt be happier....ball gets great length.smooth arc to the hole...murders the pins....
No sign of the dreaded "thumb-thump", tracking about 1/4" from hole.
Perfect result.
Thanks to everybody for your input, was much appreciated.
