Is this solid?
« on: October 04, 2005, 11:53:49 PM »
Does this seem like a pretty solid arsenal:

GP2
Rule
Xception
Desert Heat

I also have a Freak-A-Zoid that I probably won't be using much since it is right around the Rule and X.  I am planning on adding a plastic, but am holding off until Track puts one out if I can.  The only gap I might see in tourneys is between the Rule and GP2.  I would really like to add a Delta, but not much $$$ for that right now.  Anyone got one used, lol?  But for my normal league play, I don't see a need for anything more than the Rule.

Any advice or suggestions?

I think it is pretty solid. Like you said, you may want to add something down the line like a Delta or even a light load particle (Aggressive) and you will be VERY complete!

The Rule has 320 surface.  The FAZ is pretty aggresive also.  The offer a very similar look for me.  The Rule is just a bit smoother though.  That is why I'm keeping it in and not the FAZ.

the only thing I might suggest is something between the Exception and the Desert like a Heat or a Solution EX

I actually see a bigger gap between the Xception and Desert Heat.  The Xception is quite strong, especially downlane.  There is a pretty big jump from the Xception to the Desert Heat.  A Heat or Solution would fit perfectly.  Another possible gap is the lack of a strong symmetrical piece.  I would put an Aggressive or Reactive up there around the Rule.

If you are only interested in getting say one ball, I would evaluate the majority of the conditions you face and if they tend to be heavy or you can use more aggressive pieces, then get something up there around the Rule/GP2.

Good luck.

At this point, I don't really see much of a need for anything between the X and the Desert.  I can kill the X pretty good with some wrist adjustments and tame it down pretty good.  Ideally, I would add 2 more, the Heat and the Delta 1, but alas, I do not have the funds at the moment.

Hey Wylie,

I'd polish the Xception and put the FAZ back in above it.  It offers a different reaction shape that has saved me quite a few times...but as achappy states, it's more important you assess your conditions to then which you can apply the proper ball.

Rick,

I'm not taking the FAZ out of the arsenal, just out of the league arsenal.  The X is polished and offers a nice "Long and VERY Strong" reaction.  The FAZ is polished and reacts very similar to my Rule which is sanded (600 I think) and drilled for control.  With the space in my lockers, I like to keep 4 balls at the alley.  That is why I took the FAZ home, but I will still take it to tourneys.  The reaction from the Rule is a little more smooth than the FAZ although they both start pretty close to the same place on the lane.  I just don't get as much over/under with the Rule.

Wow, with the covers this different, they should react quite differently.  This tells me the condition you're on is fairly dry.  On drier conditions, it is harder to see separation from our equipment because all covers will create friction which in turn will give us a reaction.  I'd bet if you use these 2 balls in heavier oil, you'd see the difference I am trying to describe.

So if I understand you right, my FAZ should fit between the Rule and the X, correct?  This is where I planned on putting it for tounaments.  I just like the separation these 4 give me for what I see the majority of the time.

Yes, Wylie.  The FAZ should do nicely in there...
