Layout for a Machine
« on: July 18, 2007, 12:42:29 PM »
I bought a 15lb Machine today. It has a 2.5" pin and 3 oz. of topweight. I was thinking of drilling it up 4 1/2 x 4MB, but on the sheet, this layout would give a hook & set finish. By my reckoning, isn't "hook and set" an end-over-end roll? I just want to make sure that I don't lose the backend reaction because I ended up drilling it with a 4" PAP to MB. That's my question.

Hey spinner,

What's your pap again bud?  You're probably close but I just want to make sure...thanks.

Not necessarily spinner.  Hook and set simply means that a ball will expend its energy up front sooner leaving less movement on the backend.

*Oh boy, think we just had a small tremor hit as I was typing this.  My house just shook and my chair jolted a bit.*...oooohh, out here in Cali, you never know when the big one is going to hit.

Sorry, anyway spinner, for your pap measurement, the layout is fine for some decent length with finish.

What if I drill the Machine 4 1/2 with a longer MB - like 5"?  I'm not afraid of taking it to 2000 or 4000 also.

The railroad was flooded; people couldn't get to work.  Lots of crazy stuff.  A tornado actually touched down.  It hit about 5 houses and took down the trees surrounding them.

What about the Machine theory?

Yep, heard a tornado hit in Long Island (nuts)...back to business.

The 4.5x4mb should be fine.  Keep the pin up if you want more length before the break bud.

My span is 4", how about the pin 3 1/4" above the midline?  That should put the pin about a quarter inch above my ring finger.  Will this govern a skid/snap or strong arc reaction?

Any pin above grip will produce more length before the breakpoint in comparison to a pin within grip (holding the same distance from pap).

Creating a skid/snap or strong arc will vary from bowler to bowler dependent upon his/her speed to rev ratio, tilt, axis rotation and so on bud.
