Layout for Mean Machine
« on: February 03, 2007, 10:13:19 AM »
Here are some generalities about my game.  My speed is about 15-16 at the pin deck, and I have medium low revs.  I release the ball somewhere around 45 degrees.    My PAP is 4 1/2 over and 1 up.  My preferred line is around the ten board, either straight up for down and in, or with a small swing in the order of 12-7 or so.  I can also play both further outside around 3, or swing it a bit more from 15-7.  I will be using the MM in league play, on two month old ProAnvilane with a medium heavy application of a 39' crown pattern.  I've been having some problems getting my Pain to turn over on the fresh lately, so I wanted to try something stronger.  What can I expect from this ball, and what do you recommend as far as a layout?  Here are some pics of my present arsenal:

If this is true of course, it contravenes a number of the league's by-laws, and article 27 of the league...

Before I can give you a suggestion I have a few questions.

FIRST: I the Pain starting up and just not finishing very hard.....rolling out? and hitting weak?

SECOND: Does it appear more that the Pain is just not turning the corner....maybe there is too much oil present for it to work properly?

Carl--

It is starting up and getting to the hole, but not finishing well.  Also, if you like you can see a video of me in action here.  http://media.putfile.com/Five-Step-2  It doesn't focus on ball reaction, so there isn't much to see related to what my ball is doing.  Thanks!

I should add that the video is done at my home house during league night, though I didn't start recording until the 2nd game.

Hey Ryan, (sorry I missed this)

I'd suggest a 3.75-4 x 3.25-3.5mb with the pin about 2 inches above mid line.

Your game looks to be a little speed dominant so this should help you get the ball started a little sooner but still have very good continuation on the backend.

Ryan, on your next practice session, try this.  Walk up to the foul line and at about 3 inches away, turn around and take 5 regular "walking" steps back towards the seats.  This will help you tremendously in controlling your body throughout your approach.  You appear to want to walk but you're just standing too far back on the approach which causes you to "stride" or rush towards your finish.  Simple question, what's easier to do, walk to a point and stop or rush to it and stop.  We all stop at that foul line buddy....good luck.

Rick--

Also, when you say put the pin 2 inches above the midline, what does that mean?  2 inches about my fingers, or 2 inches above the center of my grip?  Is the layout you suggested kind of a label leverage layout, with the CG kicked out just a little bit?

Ryan,

I think Rick means 2" above your grip center.  Also, the MM is an asymmetrical piece, so CG no matta (only on static weights).  The placement of the pin and MB, in relation to your PAP, will dictate length and backend reaction (arc or snap).

The midline is the line that extends from the center of your grip towards your PAP. The layout Rick suggested should be perfect based on what I saw in the video. It is not label leverage. (CG placement was not mentioned because it is not important in stronger asymmetrical balls).

Thanks guys!  So 4 X 3.5mb should be good?  I'll give it a try!
