Layout for my Power Mach, as a one two with my Meanie
« on: March 21, 2007, 02:16:38 PM »
I just got my Power Machine today.  Here's a shot of the box so you can see exact specs.  The CG is slightly off line of the pin and MB, but what does that matter?  I can't wait to punch it up.

I hope that it impresses me enough to be the first ball out.  I've had great success with the Meanie for the four weeks I've had it.  Here is the layout on the Meanie:

http://picasaweb.google.com/rcfinley/BowlingBalls/photo#5044565980510944114

Sometimes the Meanie just gets to be too much, sometimes early.  It's worked great overall on the league shot, but sometimes I have to concentrate VERY hard on projecting it far down the lane to keep it on the right side, or change my hand position more to the side of the ball for more side rotation, length, and a bigger backend move.  The problem is both of these adjustments force me to be a bit erratic.  I was thinking maybe I'd just layout the Power almost exactly the same, pin above the fingers, in a layout of about 45 degrees, which is basically how the Meanie is laid out.  Any thoughts on this?  I figure with the same layout, I'll just let the differences in cover and core make the differences.  If you have any other recommendations, I'm open to them.  I probably won't get it punched till Saturday.  I can't wait, it LOOKS great, I love purple!

If this is true of course, it contravenes a number of the league's by-laws, and article 27 of the league...

I think you might want to try and lay it out about 25% weaker than your mean if what you throw on the majority of the time is standard house shot. The Power Machine can surprise you on oil if you don't have a lot of ball speed.

Ryan,

The Mean and Power Machine have the exact same core and the same intermediate differential, so you might need a slightly different layout.  Their coverstocks are at different grit, so you shouldn't need a surface adjustment.

Well, I've been using the Mean exclusively on my THS for four weeks.  The Power is overall weaker than the Mean, right?

Terry,

They are close but not the exact same.
Mean Machine
RG - 2.54
Diff - .050
MB Diff - .020
Power Machine
RG - 2.51
Diff - .054
MB Diff - .015

Ryan,

I don't really have a suggestion for a layout but I will tell you the difference I see between mine.
Mean 5.25 x 4.75 pin up 4, clean n smooth which is close to box.
Power 4.5 x 4.5 pin up 3.5, OOB
Fresh 41' heavier side of medium shot, new Pro-Anvil, break point around 7
Mean foul-20, arrows-15
Power foul-15, arrows-12
Almost always have to put the Mean away by the middle of game 2 and when I switch to the Power I will usually make any where from a 1-4 board right adjustment depending on break down for optimum length and reaction.
The Power pushes easier than any medium-med/hvy ball I have ever had and the Mean is surprisingly early and smooth yet strong for me.

splendorlex - Wasnt you preaching a few months backs to someone about buying new/used balls all time that was just starting bowling with a low avg ?

Looking at your profile, I see a Current avg of 175.

You really need a 8 ball arsenal (including the Power Machine) with a 175 avg ????

302--

I actually average 180 in a tough house, and cash in 50-60% of the ABT tourneys I enter.  My highest finish being third, but my BEST finish being ninth in the Chicagoland Open two years ago.  I currently have a Doom, Pain, Mean and now Power Machine.  Where do you get an 8 ball arsenal?  I carry three to leagues, Mean, Doom and a Spare.  (Replacing the Doom w/ the Power)  And yes, I do routinely advise new bowlers not to buy a ton of new balls, or worry about arsenals, but I don't preach.  And they almost ALWAYS thank me sometime later.

You just re-did your profile, you had 7 current balls listed. I should have quoted it.

These were it I think:

-Pain
-Doom
-Mean Machine
-D/T Vendetta PP
-Target Zone
-Power Machine
-
-

I'm not sure of the other 2, but I know they were listed. Thats where I got your avg info from as well.

Pretty smart changing your profile around after I called you on it...lol

I had the Pain, Doom, Mean, Vendetta (Listed, I might add, as not drilled for me),  Vibe (Listed as cracked and out of commission, now gone) and the Target Zone.  When you posted, I realized my arsenal was out of date and changed it.  The Vibe is gone, the Vendetta is still gathering dust, and the only balls I use are now listed.  I also noticed my profile in general was out of date, including my average and other stuff.  I checked it because I was shocked when you said I had an 8 ball arsenal, when the most balls I've ever had at once is 6.  Sue me.

So, do you have an actual reason for picking a fight with me, or is it just for kicks?  I've withheld thus far from retaliating.

And you should know how little a THS average matters.  If I bowled in a different house in my area I would be in the mid 190s.

lol....Don't get so defensive

So you think that Mid 190's in a easy THS house is called for owning up to 6 balls ?

Well you gave the other guy a few months back a ton hassle about buying another ball. You pretty much followed him around thread after thread saying the same thing, "get lessons". Don't feel that good does it ?

Retaliate ?

Retaliate for what ? Because I simply asked you if you really needed 8 balls for a 180's avg bowler ? (All of which was listed in your profile, so anyone would assume was correct.)

No, if that was the case.  I told you I bowl in a tough house, not an easy one.  And I also told you I'm a tourney bowler, and I cash about 50% of the time.  I also get regular lessons from a Silver Certified coach.  The bowler you are referencing has been bowling less than 6 months and wanted to buy a whole arsenal.   I've been bowling for 4 years and yes, I have 6 balls, and I never carry more than 3.

I think I get it now.  You're the guy I took to task for being an idiot at league, getting loaded and playing lowball when  you carry a 220 or so average.  Did I hurt your feelings?

LOL !

So you think I played "lowball", big deal...

If you really wanna get dirty, consider this:

I can you shoot your avg and that that would be considered sandbagging for me

Trust me, I've seen the vid you posted in the video forum. If I top spun the ball down 5 like you do, maybe I would avg 180-190 as do you.

Anyways..Good luck to ya and hopefully get some coaching before you drill up that power machine !
