Looking for some stuff to compliment my 5.0
« on: July 04, 2005, 10:05:41 AM »
The topic really says it all.  I need 2 or 3 balls to go around my 5.0.  The reaction it gives me is very nice for a house shot, but I noticed that when the mids started to dry up the ball would grab a bit early and lose some pop on the backend.  I obviously need something for heavier oil that will roll sooner.  A GP2 sounds good here, except I don't know about a layout for it.  I also need something that will go a little longer for when the heads and mids start to dry, but not toasty.  I have an Absolute Inferno on the way that might fit the bill with the right layout and cover prep.  If not, I was thinking an Xception would be perfect.  The 5.0 like I said will be great for a THS with dry backends or slight carrydown.  The main thing I am looking for here is versatility.  I know I can throw the 5.0 on a fresh, medium shot all the way up to heavier oil.  It covers a nice range of patterns.  I posted some pics below of the layout on my 5.0.  I am a medium tracker with ball speed anywhere from 16-17 at the pin deck.  Rick saw a video of me and mentioned that I'm near the higher tweener range of revs.  Any and all suggestions are more than welcome.

GP2 and Xception sound about right to me.

Raven,

I like the GP2 above the 5.0. Usually when someone gets a GP2 they want it for a flood and I suggest to them to lay it out for that condition. Place the pin in the leverage position 3 3/8 from PAP (or a tad further like 3 5/8 from PAP) and place the MB on their VAL. This will get it started up very early for heavier oil.....and most are suprised at the backend reaction they get out of this ball when it is used on the proper amount of oil.

For underneath the 5.0 there are several options....Since the 5.0 gives you good reaction off of fresh backends or even mild carrydown backends.....then how about a ball to smoothen the lane down a bit like a Slash? With the proper surface adjustment it gets down the lane easier than the 5.0 when the mids start to go. Another addition I think would fit great is the Xception. Imagine an identical reaction to what your 5.0 gives you, but the Xception clears the heads and mids much easier! Overall you will see the Xception about 5-7 boards weaker or more, depending on the condition you are bowling on.
