Title: Lucky Find
Post by: williewc on April 29, 2007, 12:02:26 PM
went to the VA state tourny this weekend and the pro shop in one house had 4 Phoenix balls in the shop, so i got one and another guy got one while i was there, but none of the boxes had drill sheets in them

so im wondering if anyone has drill sheets they can scan and email me for the ball or a link for it, any help would be appreciated

Well, as long as you got good specs, you can pretty much any drill you would want on the ball. 2-3 in. 2-3 oz. top, you should be good.

Just go pin above ring, and cg kicked out from palm. Should roll farely well.

Amazing specs. Just go coventional if you want to. Standard pin over ring, or bridge, and cg slightly kicked out. Weighthole may be needed.

I didnt get a drill sheet with my ball either. Since Mr.Skidmore knows how to drill them up we should go with his suggestions?

Standard conventional drill, the pin up will give you length with a more snappy backend. I don't think I have ever drilled up exactly like the drill sheet has.

Kenny i'm glad you taught us all what a "standard conventional" drill is, i'm going to make sure to ask my pro shop operator to drill all my stuff that way becuase if you said it, it must be the best option. I guess instead of using the drillers knowledge or looking on the internet for an actual drill sheet to use in reguards of your Pin to PAP to set up the prefered reaction as you are supposed to.

BTW there is more to a drill sheet than diagrams!

Mike, you are seriously getting on my nerves bro. Do I not have an opinion? I just suggested a drill pattern, and you go on about how I am such a pro (sarcasticly). Get off my balls dude.

That sheet may have been the one that Track would have ended up putting in the box with the Phoenix, but only because the Phoenix is "symmetrical".

That's Track's standard layout sheet...

Kenny that diagram 99% isn't close to what the layout ends up looking like. The Pin to PAP distance is the most important part of the layout on the drill sheet and so is the Pin being above below the fingers. Yes you did suggest Pin above the ring finger or bridge but believe me if he is a low tracker the pin will be way left and if he is a high tracker that pin will not end up there. A general description is not the way to go these days. Most equipment can be tweaked to do almost anything but for it do as the person wants you need to get technical, for him the layout you suggested could be anywhere from a 4" to 6" pin to pap distance, creating many different reaction possibilities.

I'd say you were on the right track but you needed to take it further. And also for more proof of what I said in that wall look at drilling #1 compared to drilling #3, they appear the same but are not very close.

But take it into reality, how many AVERAGE bowlers know how far their pin from PAP distance is?

I know a whole lot of bowlers who don't even know where their PAP is located.

Simple answer is not enough and that is why you see bad reviews with ball due to a driller just slapping a drilling on it and not asking for important info.

Now back relating on the topic by getting the drill sheet (I agree looks like tracks normal symmetrical core drill sheet) but that should be enough to get you in the ball park, I wish I had used one to comment though on what the ball is really like but I believe there was a topic not too long ago by (correct me if i'm wrong) SteveAustin had a topic on one he drilled up and used, Scoot should know.

Kenny, I bowl on THS 95% of the time, only local tournaments, average 210-220 or so...my PAP is 4 5/6" over, 4/5" up, and on my Total Inferno, my pin is 3 3/8" pin from PAP, CG 2.75 from PAP.
Ultimate, 3" pin from PAP.
Eraser, roughly 4" pin from PAP.
What else do you want? Maybe you don't understand. More and more people are learning the drilling aspect of the sport...don't assume all local bowlers are idiots..what the hell are you anyways?

Wow man, I was seriously asking a simple question. I had no intentions of disrespecting anyone. I was just pointing out man, that most bowlers are not into the technical and drilling aspects of the game. I know most everything on my balls because I helped drill them and lay them out.

Shipper,

That drill sheet was provided by going to Track's website, selecting the Phoenix and the link was on the page featuring the Phoenix. (http://"http://www.trackbowling.com/gear/balls.cfm?bid=64")

It looks like a generic drill sheet, but that is what Track recommends for the ball.  You were looking for their drill sheet, here it is.  Take it for what its worth.
