Machine Layout, help for a friend..
« on: August 31, 2006, 10:14:32 AM »
Hey everyone, topic says it.. the specs are..

Machine
16#
3-3.5 inch PIN
2 1/2 TW
MB inline with PIN and CG

My friend's dad throws pretty fast. I think around 20mph, but he lofts it also. Probably slower to medium revs. I don't know his PAP, but i recommended a Machine to him, because of my lanes pattern. He said he wants it to be a Big Hook. The ball he's throwin now is a burgandy hammer , so he sort of needs a new ball.

Hopefully someone can help here, without his PAP. I was thinking PIN below the RING with MB to the right of the thumb? Just a simple layout nothing special.

if he wants a big hook. hes gonna get it with the machine. i would go with something pretty reactive man - something along the lines of pin up - mb on val - etc...

thats the layout of mine-  works great and is am champion ball for me.

you can always find that on an existing ball. i would just have the driller copy, pap, val, preferred cg distance... etc.

its pretty tough to decide how to drill a ball.

That's what he told me..

well. if he's in his 50's and still throwing 20 mph. he must have good knees. this ball will hook on its own no matter what drill you put on it.

does he want it to go long, and then snap- or go early and have a continious roll?

my layout was used to go longer and have s huge backend to the pin deck.

that would be a good recommended layout. if they are inline. the mb to the right of the whole is a great placement as well.

Well he said he wants it to hook, straight up!^

He throws 20mph, because he almost throws the ball. I still don't know how he does it. He's not very big or anything?

Anyways, do you think that if he drills it to hook later, with his ball speed, do you think it will hook to late? That's why i thought a Pin BELOW the ring finger with the MB to the right of the thumb should be good? I'm confused.. :?

hmm. yeah-  with someone lofting, it usually goes pretty deep down lane. i would suggest something with the pin below ring then. same layout.. slightly to the right.

When he goes to the local pro shop to get it drilled they will OR ATLEAST SHOULD be able to find his PAP and VAL.

Since he sounds really speed dominant I would suggest having the pin drilled leverage (3 3/8 from PAP) and keep the pin low....roughly 2 inches above his midline. The MB should be on his VAL...this will help get the ball started.

I hope this info helps,
Carl

What if the proshop doesn't find his PAP? Or even look for it? There's not too many good one's here in PA

You have to have him make sure he asks for them to find it. Without that type of info.....if a pro shop wants to drill it......I would find another pro shop.

Yes, Carl i know exactly what you mean. I did that exact thing, BUT like i said before this guy isn't really into bowling that kind of way. He just wanted a new ball, because he's currently using a urethane...

I don't know..

I understand what you are saying about the bowler.......it is the pro shop's job to drill it properly for him!

I disagree... it sounds like he's totally speed dominant so he needs something to picl up sooner. I'd go with something like pin 4" from PAP (or basically under ring) with the MB on or near VAL.

---o-o---
-----p---
---------
----O----
---------MB

Or something along those lines, as long as his PAP/track isn't completely abnormal.

You can also add a weight hole in the thumb positive quadrant if necessary. And remember... you can ALWAYS change the surface!!!

I'm officially a ball junkie

Well that's what i was thinking for him. Pin BELOW and MB to the right of thumb, BUT since he doens't know his PAP, would he still be able to drill it that way??
