Heavy Oil Ball Comparison...Input wanted
« on: April 05, 2006, 12:35:23 PM »
Hey all,

I currently own a 16lb storm paradigm drilled with the pin about 1" above the ring finger and a balance hole 2.5" to the right of the CG and about 4.5-5" from the pin.

I'm looking to get a ball for very heavy oil conditions. Our lanes here at the U. of Maryland tend to have very extreme conditions at many times (sometimes including absolutely no oil and at other times, 2 or 3 coats) I've narrowed my search down to 4 balls and I'd like to get some feedback on which would be best for me. I've narrowed it down to:

Storm - Paradigm Passion
Brunswick - Scorchin' Inferno
Track - Robo Rule
Roto Grip - Epic Battle

I'd especially appreciate feedback from those who have used more than one of these balls.

I tend to throw fairly hard and have had to slow down my shot at times with the paradigm in heavy oil situations.

Thanks in advance,
Rich

EDIT:

I forgot to add...I'm more of a cranker-tweener

my paradigm has 4-4.5" pin placement, 2.68oz top weight

Forget all of those balls.  Those, for me, would be medium-heavy at best.
Two words:  EPX T1
Read my mini-review:

The EPX T1 wants oil and eats it for breakfast.  I waited this long to try one because I was very skeptical at first, but now I am a believer.

Do you want the Ultimate Heavy oil ball, look into the Slate Blue Visionary Centaur AMD! There is not enough oil to stop this ball from turning! I own a Robo Rule only because I don't think I will ever see enough oil for the Visionary ball, but I have not used the Robo on what I would term as Heavy oil, I hope it will perform as other's have said it will, early and continous!

Da SEAHAWKS are gonna win it all Next Year, if the NFL will allow it!

I'm assuming you mean the Centaur AMB Particle...

To tell you the truth find a Rule GP2. I know alot of guys will tell you it takes to oil better then the robo rule. I know from a staffer that was told by Del that he thought the release of the GP2 may have been a overkill on a heavyoil ball. On the fact that it rolls better in oil then anyball he has seen or made.

If you can't find a GP2....the Robo is a great choice. The light load particle lets the ball have some kick on the backend, while there is enough particle in it to handle the soup....very versatile ball that can cover an array or conditions with some suface adjustments!

I third the GP2.  I own one and it pretty much sits in my closet collecting dust because I can not find a house in my area that has enough oil for this ball to work on.  I pretty consider my Delta 1 for my Heavy Oil ball on house shots

The question isn't why do I throw all Track, it's why don't you.

Arsenal includes:
Rule GP2, Rule Delta 1, Heat Blast, Triton Heat,  Desert Heat, Blue Enforcer, Sugar Ray Leonard Boxing Glove

I currently use storm equipment and bowl on very heavy oil on synthetic lanes. For me the Vertigo works the best on heavy oil.  In the last 30 games I've been averaging around 210 with the vertigo.

However, next season I am converting to Track.  I have purchased the Rule Delta 1 and the Arsenal Reactive.  I have very high hopes with these two balls.

I am a high rev bowler and prefer reactive resin over particle, that's why I got these two balls.

Just my 2 cents.  Good luck with your choice.
Remember, above all else, have fun.

God Bless.

Hey Rich,

All balls mentioned are good choices for heavier conditions.  They each have their strength at different points though to me. Here's what I see..

Scorchin - earlier roll, smoother finish
Epic Battle - decent length, good midlane and strong accelerating finish
Robo Rule - almost identical to the Battle, both very nice balls
Only drilled one Passion, didn't get to see it.

Hope this helps some....

SCORCHIN INFERNO!!!
read my review in the reviews section.
--------------------
Its hard to play with an inferno and not get burned. Last time I threw my inferno, the opposing bowler definitely got burned.

Arsenal
Scout Reactive(Blue/Gold)
V2 Sweet
Original Inferno
Intense Inferno
Smokin' Inferno
Scorchin Inferno
Maxim(spare)
