Title: Mean Machine
Post by: FastTracker33 on August 09, 2006, 10:29:37 AM: hey everyone i'll be getting my Meanie tommorow, and it's already drilled, but i had a quick question...

What would a 4x2 layout do in reaction wise? With an Extra hole on PAP drilled about 3 inches deep?

My PAP is 5 OVER and 1/4 UP, what would this layout do for a Meanie?

Post by: Re-Evolution on August 09, 2006, 07:31:16 PM: By 4 x 2 I am asuming you mean Pin x CG if so what is the Pin x MB which is more accurate to what the expected reaction is. Especially when you consider the CG could be misaligned in relation to the Pin to MB line.

Post by: Re-Evolution on August 09, 2006, 08:16:37 PM: Assuming the Pin, CG and MB are aligned I would expect it to be fairly early and smooth. A forward roll drill on a Track drill sheet. I suspect it is around a 30Â° drilling which will be good on heavier and longer patterns.

I would need to know in the 4x2.....what does the 2 pin point? The CG location from PAP or the MB location from PAP?

I got to thinking about it after I asked and it has to be Pin and CG cause you can't have a 4 x 2 (pin x MB). With a 4" pin to PAP the closest you could have the MB is 2.75" which would be a 0Â° drilling. However the CG distance tells us nothing without knowing the pin to CG distance and the pin/cg/MB alignment.

On a ball like the Mean Machine (and I am aware that he has the ball now and knows how it is drilled), wouldn't you want to let them know the layout PIN to PAP and MB to PAP (considering the cg location on asymmetricals is irrelevant)?

Hey Carl i Pmed Beans and he should be posting here soon, but anyways..

I saw the Mean Machine in Rick's video of it, and that reaction he gets is VERY similiar to the reaction i "wanted", but maybe with a more harder arc (just a tad bit more, just a tad). Is there anyway i can drill a Mean to do this for me?

Honestly, the reaction you are seeing could probably be solved with the coverstock adjustment.

HOWEVER....I think that the layout Rick initially suggested would be perfect. Pin under as opposed to above generally arcs more for most bowlers.

thanks Carl, i told ASB-Joe that i'll try the Mean at 1000,2000,and 4000 grits and see the reaction i get, but im going on a vacation now and won't be able to try it for another week or so. i will update on how my progress is with it, because believe me this ball does NOT arc, it has a sick backend flip on it..

I wouldn't go above 1500 OOB finish...that will cause it to flip even harder.

Start with 1000...and if that doesn't work, I would try 800.

ok Carl, thanks for that heads up. Joe told me to try 1000, 2000, and 4000 grits, but i'll try your idea for 1000 and 800 grit..

BTW, what is the Mean's OOB finish grit?

Anyways, i didn't forget about my Meanie , i am gonna go get some 800, and 1000 grit sand paper tommorow and i'm gonna try it on the lanes Sunday and Monday. I'm gonna update on both days i used it.
