Title: Mean Machine or The Rising
Post by: spinner031 on July 22, 2007, 09:22:31 AM
I just don't know.  Either The Rising or the Mean Machine for the Shark, Scorpion, and Chameleon, which one would I prefer?  Under my selection I have an original Machine.  I'm pretty sure that the Rising is TONS stronger than the Mean Machine, and it'll dominate the Shark for sure, but will it be too far away from the original Machine?

I want to have a flood/heavy oil ball that I can use on these patterns AND when my Machine just can't make the turn.  I want a ball that has a smooth, predictable arc, but doesn't burn up so much that it goes into a forward roll at the pins.

Oh, and here's a not-so-important question:  What types of tricks would the Rising do with a 3 3/8 x 3 3/8 drilling!?!

If you have any kind of rev rate and a decent track, probally flare out and have nothing left for the backend.

With that type of drilling who knows what The Rising will do. It has the new 360 Degree Layout System, and laying it out using that will put The Rising to its strongest reaction point. Laying it out with the conventional patterns like you stated, spinner, it will make The Rising roll up early and arc.

Time will only tell on what The Rising will do. I'm sure Rick, Carl, or Mark will chime in here. Hope this helps!

Okay, that's something I won't do then!

I'm just thinking about this more now because there's a guy on ebay with and NIB Mean Machine, 3" pin (PERFECT!) and No reserve, currently @ $60! But I won't rush out there and buy it if it won't work well for me.

I agree with carl, the Rising will give you a lot of drilling ideas because of the new layout system.

i have a mean machine, but i think I'm going to get "the rising" and have it drilled stronger than my mean, i need a ball with a extemly strong lay out for when i run into long oil conditions at some tournaments. I may wait and see some reviews from members, just to make sure, everyone is pleased with it. but from what ive read, i sure it will "rise" to the occasion.

Hey spinner,

Both pieces are stronger compared to our Machine of course, however, both pieces also have a place in our arsenal.  The Rising with our new Mega Tron core can produce quite a few various reaction shapes compared to our Mean.

I'd get both especially if you can get the Mean at a good price and the Rising is just a must.  In Vegas at our Ebonite Showcase, I watched the strong handed players just destroy the shot and then I even helped line up the strokers and tweeners to where they saw how hard this ball hits.  The Rising truly is a must...

I said "forward roll."  I don't want a strong ball with no backend.

I mean I don't want the ball to use up all its energy in the heads and midlane, and not have the backend reaction; not react off the dry boards.

I just don't want to wait so long that I lose the Mean option.  I'm pretty sure that I won't be buying both, certainly not yet, because I don't think I'll need something stronger.

I want what's going to be best for me (pricewise, as well).  I'm only going to actually be using my selection, I'm sure, for next summer's PBA Experience.  So that'll be the Shark, Scorpion, maybe Chameleon.  The other patterns I'll deal with with the Machine, Artillery, and/or Equation.  That's the theory anyway.

Rick would get both, he says, and that brings up this possibility - The Rising would be too strong a ball, and there would be a gap between the Machine and it.  *OR* I get the Mean Machine, which I find to be too weak, and on PBA Shark it doesn't quite cut it where The Rising would.  Whatever, you know?  I'll wait it out.

"Was?"  It hasn't been yet.  It should be released September 10th.

Lot of good it does to compare a ball that will not be released for months.

But the Track reps should know about it.

I second that.  My MM has a pretty strong layout, and set too 1000 abralon turns the corners hard, but acts like an Equation(no offense to that ball) on the longer patterns.  Only a matter of time now...
