Coaches Corner REVISITED
« on: July 23, 2006, 02:20:31 AM »
As many of you may remember, Rick and I were posting some coaching tips a while back. With the bowling season rapidly approaching I think it is a good idea to start again.

The "KICKOFF" is very simple..................it is time to get your equipment (bowling equipment....get your mind out of the gutter) out of the closet and hit the lanes. Most of us know what our weaknesses are and those should be the areas that we focus on starting NOW.

Practice  minimum of once a week. 3-6 games should be enough to start. Work on your weak areas. DO NOT WORRY ABOUT SCORE. If your problem is in your approach or finishing position don't worry about where the ball is to start. Once you have started to get that corrected THEN start worrying about your target.

If you can get out and practice with the purpose of strengthening your game and not concern yourself with scores this league season is going to be VERY good for you.

I went out this weakend and realized I had an equipment issues. I decided to pull my freak and throw it for a while. The lanes had just been oiled. I shot a couple of 200's with it. I then pull my Fired up out, and I realized that I was putting more tilt and side rotation on the ball. I couldn't figure it out. I also realized it seemed to fit differently than my freak, and I love how my freak is drilled. Come to find out, it looks as if either A) thumb needs to be a little bigger or b) the span is shorter on my fired up by 1/8th of an inch.

The reason I mention A) is because my thumb goes in farther on my freak than my fired up, and could account for the span difference.

The fired up always seemed to fit good, but since I pulled an old ball out that was drilled perfectly, I realized I was wrong. Good thing I noticed it now, and can take care of it before league starts.
