Hello everyone. Yes it's been awhile since I've posted on the website- my family is gearing up for a move to a new apartment this week a town away from where I currently live- thus not as much time for the surfing I normally do. Anyway, I've been reading the wonderful article that Del Warren developed in this month's BTM regarding choosing the right equipment for your bowling style. Based on my game I would place myself closer to the number 5 player he described (ball speed of 17.53-18.18 mph off my hand dominating the rev rate of 232.5-247.5 rpms) although I have some tendencies to be closer to number 4 when it comes to sport shots or tougher lane conditions. Other stats about my game are in my profile along with my current arsenal.

Based on the fall season I want to get something new that would be the benchmark/first ball out of the bag category (to go below my Robo Rule) and then something in the length with strong motion category. What two balls do you think fit that creteria the best? According to the article, the best case scenario for the first ball out of the bag category is an Asymmetrical or symmetrical super low RG, large flare core with reactive or light particle coverstock, and then in the length w/strong motion category, a large flare asymmetrical or symmetrical core with either a reactive or light load particle coverstock.

For one of the categories I am thinking of the Mean Machine. The other one I'm open to suggestions- Track or otherwise. My ball driller was thinking of the AMF Venom, but I know that's a particle pearl- and I've had good luck in the past with some particle pearl equipment (Storm Eraser Particle Pearl, AMF VP2).

Keep up the great work Del and the rest of the Track staffers.

Matt

Matt,

Good to see you back bud.

I think the best benchmark ball right now is the Heat Blast.......think Slash but with more backend. You may need to adjust the surface a bit because it come pretty shiney. You could probably get away with the Machine here as well. As long as it is not drilled to roll too soon.

Length and strong strong motion just screams Equation.

Goodluck,
Carl

I will offer up a different opinion on the benchmark ball.....

For me it is Arsenal Artillery.  It is a super low RG ball with a decent amount of differential...

Here is how mine is drilled up...

I then took a 1000 grit abralon pad and a very soft touch and took the shine off the ball to help it read the lanes a bit earlier..

This ball for me is my benchmark ball and the ball I use probably 70% of the time.  Starts up early but not too early (if kept in the head oil)...reads the midlane very well and makes a nice strong arc to the pocket.  This ball gives me all sorts of room if I get it out to the dry and pull it into the oil.  The carry from any angle is phenominal and this ball has basically made be get rid of my VooDoo (which I loved!!) and my Heat Blast as they never came out of the bag..

I hope this helps!

Mike
