Mini Review: Arsenal Artillery
« on: February 22, 2006, 02:53:22 PM »
I know that many of you have been waiting most of the week for me to post this, I apologize for the delay.

Ball: Pin 4 1/2 from PAP, pin under ring finger, CG kicked out about 2- 2.5 inches from the gripline. I have left it with the OOB finish, it is too Darn great to change.

I have only been able to use the Artillery at my home house....which offers a very black/white type of shot. Heavy oil 10 and in, outside of 10 is extreme dry.

Line: I had to stand 29 with my feet to start and target 7 board down the lane as my breakpoint. I was unable to play the same line with my Heat Blast because it wouldn't turn the corner as hard in the backend. I had to move over to 25-26 with the Blast to get a good strong reaction to the pocket.

Reaction:
I drilled this ball very similiar to my Arsenal Reactive...and I didn't do this by accident. It clears the heads CLEAN and starts reading the pattern at around 34-35ft. When it encounters friction it is a strong flip to the pocket. Unlike alot of other equipment I see thrown on this pattern, I have not gotten over/under out of the Artillery at all.

Impact:
If you read through my reviews on alot of other equipment, I have stated over and over how well Track stuff hits the pins. The Artillery is no different.....INFACT it hits harder than anything I have thrown or have seen thrown. EVER!

Readability:
I think a higher speed player would be able to use this ball to read the lanes, but for me if I were on an unfamiliar pattern I would want to use a smoother reaction ball overall to see what the lanes are doing. THEN I would more than likely grab the Artillery and use it!

Overall Comments:
This is a GREAT ball to have released not long after Del's return. For those of you familiar with the Arsenal Series, picture the Arsenal Angular...only more movement in the backends and more power at the pindeck.

A couple of weeks to go and I will be posting my review soon. It will not take me long to reach enough games to post a final review.

EX,

As far as length, how much longer is it than the Arsenal Reactive? Is it as strong or less?

Thanks,

Dj

DJ,

It gets roughly 3 ft further down the lane than the Reactive. This is with each with their OOB finish.

As far as overall strength, the Reactive will handle more oil due to the coverstock, but the Artillery will hook more on the backend. This leads me to believe that the Artillery on the correct shot can easily cover more boards than the Reactive.

Ex,

Will you be getting a Machine?  If so, when can we expect a mini?

Kyle,

I will be getting a machine, I am not sure when. Naturally as with every ball I get I will post a mini review after 6 games or so and a final review after roughly 20 games or so.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how much it will do and where you would put it in the Track lineup.  It appears to be a monster but on the other hand it says for Medium lanes.

With what you said, do you believe that this ball would overlap with my Fired Up? I really am looking for something from track that gives me the same length as my fired up(factory polished, drilled with pin over ring finger) but with more backend. Something that read a tad earlier would be ok.

Dj,

The Artillery is stronger than any Fired Up I have seen....slightly earlier and more backend....much more backend.

DPat,

The Artillery is stronger overall. It has a more violent reaction in the backend....however it will also hook more in oil than the Blast. The Blast is smoother throughout the lane (although it reacts well in the backends, its backend does not compare to the Artillery).

EX,

Thanks for your help. I think this might just be what I need from track then. I really am looking for something I can move my feet in a little. Currently I'm throwing my Fired up 12 to 8. I'm looking for something I can move into 15 or so with.

Carl's Post are "dead on" in here.  Threw my Artillery for the first time last night....250 first game. More length and turn than Blast, but stronger overall, and the ball does hit hard. His comparison's to the AR are accurate as well. Mine came with a little bit more shine than I expected, but still performed great. Exactly what I was looking for in the line.

Could someone who's thrown both the Aggressive and the new Artillery, compare them? I absolutely love the  Aggressive, and I just drilled a BIG ONE, which I also like.  I would hate to drill an Artillery and find out that it is too similar to the Aggessive to make a difference.  I am able to use my Aggessive comfortably on everything except HEAVY oil, or a shot that has no heads.  Anything else, and the Aggressive is a killer!!!
