Mini Review: Arsenal Reactive
« on: September 24, 2005, 05:32:00 AM »
Ball:
Pin 4 1/2 from PAP under ring finger, CG stacked below. I left it with the OOB finish.

Line: There are times when I have to stand deeper with the A.R. than I do with the Delta 1 because of how strong the A.R. is in the backend. On the same pattern I  mentioned in the Delta 1 mini, I start out on 27 with my feet with my breakpoint at 9-10 board down the lane.

Reaction:
The first time I through this ball I was totally shocked and in awed. This layout is usually pretty smooth throughout the lane for me, but when I threw it it turned left in the backend like I would expect a polished ball to do. It is a couple of ft further down the lane than the Delta 1 when it starts its roll, but it has more in the backend than the Delta 1.

Impact:
WELL--------------This ball flat smacks the pins. I think it hits better when I am on a tighter shot and am able to square up more I love it. It has one of those distinctive "PINGS" when it hits the pins. It keeps the pins low, and as long as it is thrown correctly you are not going to leave anything when you hit the pocket.

Readability:
Even with the OOB finish the A.R. has too much movement at the breakpoint for me to use it to read the lanes. I think a stroker would be in love with this ball though because I would expect it to give a smoother reaction for them.

Overall Comments:
VERY nice ball. I really loved the Arsenal Aggressive, and I think I may like the Arsenal Reactive even more. The coverstock is durable, I have quite a few games on it (mostly on wood lanes) and I don't have a mark on it yet. Given OOB surface those of you that want an angular movement out of a dull symmetrical the A.R. is for you. If you have lower ball speed or achappy kind of revs you are going to need to apply some polish to the surface. The A.R. makes the Arsenal Series even more legit. The A.R. handles carrydown very well compared to the other balls in the Arsenal Series. Track was saying that the A.R. and Absolute Inferno have identical movement throughout the lane....I don't see it because the A.R. seems to perform better in more oil, and it definately rips the rack better.

Placement:
The Arsenal Reactive fits below the Rule Delta 1 and above the Xception 5.0 for me.

Great review EX.  I had to put some magic shine on my reactive because the oob surface was just to strong.  I could use this ball on a flood with the oob surface.  Your so right about the backend as well.  I can play as deep as I want with this ball and it still comes back strong.  Your also very accurate on the hit.  This ball flat out hits.

I love the arsenal reactive. Great ball.  If you don't own one of these your missing out.  I plan on buying a few of these balls.

Carl,

I like your review. Comparisons raise the base comprehension of a good review.

Any idea what that coverstock is, from the Columbia family or is it something truly new? I suspected that someone;s original comparison to the B'wick AI may have been misleading.

That super low RG and that rough surface sure make for a powerful ball. I have one coming and now, with this initial review, all I'm wondering is how much I'll have to polish it to make it usable, OR, how far I'll have to travel to use it.

Charlest I have mine polished with magic shine.  It has a couple coats of polish on it.  The OOB surface was too strong for me to use.  I could use the oob cover if the lanes were a true flood.  With the polish I use it for med to med/heavy.  I have a good amount of hand.  I classify myself as a highend tweener or low end cranker for my A-game.

Your going to really like this ball bud.

I am looking for a better replacement for my AI and this may be a winner!!!!! Sounds very interesting that this is supposed to move about the same as the AI but, it hits like a track!!!

I don't think this is the same as the AI.  I have the reactive and have seen the AI in action.  I feel the reactive is much stronger than the AI.  Stronger in the mid lane and backend.

charlest,
I have not tried to alter the surface. If I were to polish it at all I would probably just put some Magic Shine over top of the OOB finish.
The comparison's to the AI, from everything I understand was totally ball motion.....so they had to have used identical coverstock preps.

As for the coverstock.....I really don't know. I have asked this question a few times and have gotten a few different replies. I will say this-----I see a similiar roll (naturally core comes into affect) in the cover that I saw out of the original GOO used on the Rule.

Didn't mean to mislead; I wasn't sking you to tell me how to change the cover's original surface. It was more of a rhetorical question, as I don't think I'd find enough local oil to use the cover, as it comes out of the box.

That's what Achappy implied to me about the AR, and the one reason why I am in the midst of procuring one. I kind of like that idea a lot. THANKS!

Carl,

This is another great ball, I too had the Aggressive but once I polished it, that reaction went bye-bye. Got the Reactive and now its up there on my list of great ones of all time from Track. Hasn't beat the X-Ception yet! Great review dude!

Hey Bartender,

I see it pull just a little less than the UI but has more on the backend.  This is why I mentioned earlier that OOB it seemed to fit in between the UI and AI.  Hope this helps...
