Tracks Earliest Rolling Ball for Oil
« on: June 07, 2004, 11:22:04 PM »
I know this has been brought up before (many times) but we have new balls in play so I thought I would bring this up again. I'm curious what everyone thinks the earliest rolling Track ball is.

I'm currently using a Phenom but I don't like the way I drilled it so I'm replacing it.  It's between another Phenom and the Animal. I have the Untamed and the Unleashed and they both get through the heads really easy so I'm really not considering those for heavy oil and flatter patterns.

If someone thinks I'm missing the boat with the Untamed and the Unleashed feel free to respond.

Thanks!

The Untamed is by far the most ball I have seen from Track...or any other company for that matter.  It is going to be your best bet, in my opinion, to achieve overall board coverage.  Hope this helps.  As far as EARLY roll, I would say the Phenom and/or Mutant with surface.  Super Freak would be the next option, but be careful...it tends to want to burn early more times than not.

Take the animal, place the pin 1" above grip line, 3-3/8 from pap and MB on val or past if you want arc or at 3.375  to 4 " for more snap.

sand to 600 and see if that gets you there. I think the nature of these cores is to rev hard off the breakpoint not in the heads but that should get you rolling early as the shell will dictate the traction in oil.

placing the pin that low will give you the earliest change at revs and 3-3/8 gives you max flair to expose as much surface as possible.

I agree with the Animal choice, my Phenom sanded picked up quick but the Animal has much more continuation in comparison to both of the balls overall reaction.  DPR suggests a good layout for the reaction and I also agree with Track-Atl on the surface change to help the ball get into an earlier roll.  Hope this helps...

Thanks all for the help.
I will try the Animal. Unfortunately I can't use the suggested drilling do to my high inverted roll but I have a early roll set-up that works well or me.

don't be so sure about thte track. on  symetrical balls, my track is about 1/4" from fingers  1-1/2" from the thumb.

on my phenom drilled with the pin near the grip mid line, My track is about 1" from the fingers and 3" from the thumb.

all three of my Morphoues 2 cores have different ball tracks( inverted, normal and in between) and are all well clear of my fingers.

see profile for drillings.

Hey DW,

Omega is correct, don't be afraid to place the pin under rhe fingers when drilling the morpheus cores.  The bigger key is the placement of the mb, by placing the mb on or past your val, it really starts to pull the ball and flare downward.  It's even more likely that if you place the pin above fingers(safe zone) but have the mb near thumb that would make you flare over the fingers.  I've seen and heard this happen several times before.

The key in understanding the reaction we're seeing is due to the strong asymmetrical cores that have very high mass bias differentials.  The mb differentials are so much greater then they used to be, we can truly control the shape of our hook and breakpoint.  Please pm me if you need any further help, thanks.

The Phenom that I'm getting rid of has the pin 1.5" above the mid-line and 5" from my PAP. The MB is 1" from my VAL. It almost rolls between the fingers. The Unleashed I currently use has the Pin 4.75" from my PAP and right above my ring finger. The MB is 3.75" from the VAL and this ball flares twice over the finger holes but that is it.

I can't wait till I get to the Kegel Center so I can find out how to get rid of my abnormal track.

Thanks,
DW

Hey DW,

You just have a strong inverted track, that's all.  If you want to try this before giving up on the Phenom, it might work.  Plug it and redrill the pin to a leverage position to maybe 4in out at most and then place the mb past your val.

Your 5 inch pin is still assisting the length on the ball which is not forcing it to lose it's axis rotation.  The mb is also not shifted over far enough for it to pull downward.  The suggested positioning should really help the ball  lose its' axis rotation sooner and get the flare started downward much faster.  I have 2 guys who throw inverted tracks and this is how I was able to pull them off the fingers.

Here's a good one for you.  For one of my guys, we were playing with a another old pattern for control.  I had placed the pin 9:00(pin in track) from cg on a strong symmetrical ball and the weightblock pulled the ball all the way around causing a full roller track.  Just ask Omega, I remember him saying that he got the same reaction from being high inverted also.

The Animal is no question the earliest rolling Track ball. I say this with confidence....mainly because if you put the same surface on any of Morpheous/Mopheous 2.0 coverstockes, the Animal will lead the pack.
