a very late 505a review.
« on: March 16, 2010, 06:22:43 PM »
Ok I know the 505a has been out for awhile but I didn't put a review up because to be honest I didn't like the ball much...gasp! yes a staffer didn't like something.  Plus with the recent discussions on the biasness of reviews on here I wanted to wait.  I've been working with them a lot lately and feel I can give a good review.  Everyone please give me an opinion of these reviews and pm me with suggestions.  The only thing I will not...and cannot do is compare anything in the track line to the equipment of other brands..even ebonite. After some suggestions I'll do the 715c review.  Ok here we go.

505a review.
Ok first off I just want to say keep in mind when laying out your 505a to strongly consider your mb placement.  Having it placed too strongly can give this piece a very angular but uncontrolable reaction.  Currently I have one with the rico layout and one 5" with the mb under my thumb.   I did have one that was 6" pin to pap with the mb at 4" but that was too uncontrolable.
STRENGTHS:
This ball with store up a ton of energy without help.  Even with weaker layouts this ball will still go sideways.  That being said this ball for the price is extrememly sharp off the break.  This is definitly stronger on the back than the 505C and IMO more angular than the 715A just not as early.
WEAKNESS:
If you don't like equipment that goes sideways stay away from this ball.  This ball stores up energy very easily and is extremely angular.  Fresh patterns seem to be it's weakness..it's clean down the lane and angular and on most fresh you get that anyways..making it somewhat uncontrolable early on.

btw this is just a general impressions review.  I'll be more in depth in the future...basically I'll go off of a template I just don't want to post a lengthy review just yet.

Appreciate the input from different drill patterns Dave. I have had my 505A for a few weeks now, and every week mine has had to come out of the bag, I never start with it, because like you said, it's hard to control on the fresh. BUT, this ball is designed to work after the lanes have had some play, and it's a perfect fit for my arsenal in that regard.
